When you suddenly get a few new legit members on your forum, what do you think? Are you suspicious, thinking they could be spammers? Do you accept them right away? Do you wonder if they're from a competitor?

It's totally understandable to feel a little wary when new folks pop up on a forum, especially if there's a chance they might be spamming or working for a rival company. Take some time to check out their profiles and see how they're acting on the forum before giving them the green light. Keeping an eye on their posts can help you make sure they're participating in real conversations and not trying to push any harmful stuff. Overall, it's great to welcome new members with open arms, but it's also important to stay alert and protect the forum's reputation.

Most members that I get are real members that end up saying hello and making a introduction topics 🙂 I mean most spammers and scams become ban accounts before they even have a chance with IPS defence software in place.

Historically I've gotten excited about new members joining, I like the mentality of "innocent until proven guilty" for this situation. If they turn out to be malicious then I deal with it then.

I always think they're just members looking for forum resources since I gain about 20+ members a month and the codes and skins forums are hidden from guests, which is why everyone registers.

I think new members is always a good thing. The spammers and bots are relatively easy to tell apart from the genuine members so it’s easy to get ahead of them and prevent any spam hitting your forum.

As most of my forums or the forums I manage are either by invitation only or heavily vetted I know categorically that anyone who joins is there for a legitimate reason.

In the past I have been involved with forums that care about SEO and attracting new members which inevitably leads to suspicious registrations but more recently it's something I don't need to think about.

I've probably said this elsewhere but today I'm only interested in running forums that have a membership ready and waiting for a forum to post in. The notion that if you build it they will come simply doesn't work anymore.

I do not start thinking too much. I just let them post and I will know whether they are genuine members or not just in a few days of their activity.

I try to assume positive intent for every new user. If they show common signs of spam accounts then I’ll look into it but otherwise I don’t think too much about it.

Why be suspicious of new members? I welcome new members with open arms. If they're from competitors it'll get sorted out if they break the rules, but I actually like seeing members from my competitors join. It means I'm doing something right.

As the admin of a brand new forum, I have to admit that I'm a bit vigilant when it comes to new users. It's natural to be cautious, especially when you're still building a community and don't want any unwanted elements to disrupt the conversation.

I think that being open-minded and giving people a chance to demonstrate their intentions is key to building a thriving and diverse community.

Years before, I was wary, which is why I had admin approval on (particularly when there was a forum spammer on the loose, those were bad times). Now, I'm relaxed, but I do IP lookups to make sure that the new member signing up is indeed a human.

Then again, I didn't have any problems with new members coming to my forum as they were all decent people.
