When people say LOL

What is it with people saying LOL when there is nothing that is funny?


Examples:

1. lol my hair just got torn off by rabid bears lol it hurt lol

2. omb ich bin dead rofl

3. Yeah so he said lol "hi" lol and i was like lol "hi" back to him lol

4. lol

5. do you like gerbils lol?

Yeah, I don't get it.

WE all tend to say it allot, apart from my grandparents as they look at me weird and say what the hell does that mean lol. I think it comes down to habit of saying it and or typing it down. lol . Who starting this tend my question is.

I never use the term lol. I hate it and think most of the time people don’t laugh out loud. I always just put haha at the end if it’s funny.

LOL can mean anything, You know! like Look out Lord! lol

LOL means: "That was a little creepy." "Was I a little creepy?" "Yes, like I said, that was a little creepy."

Considering the term “lol” has made it into the dictionary under the definition of “laugh out loud” I don’t think being creepy comes into it. Look out lord? Never even heard that one! I have heard it used for lots of love.

It's used ironically! Obviously using humor to mask for underlying anxiety or distress. lol.

I prefer lmao. Everything is funnier when everything is also awful. "The earth is burning and we're all going to die lmaooo"
