When you are selling your own ads and they are the 125 x 125 as I commonly see, how can you maximize the earning potential for those types of ad spaces?
I just set this up myself on my blog, and I want it to be successful and I'd like to know some tips on how I can sell 125 x 125 ad space, and still be able to make sales.

For your blog, you need to tell people who are your readers. If I have a graphics site, would I be advertising on your blog? Probably not. Since it's a personal blog, it will be a bit harder to get the targeted advertisers, but I think there are enough "mental health" information websites out there to advertise on your site.
The ads aren't really the main thing; it's your content. You want people to come to your site and read, but if there isn't any valuable content, then people won't read and people won't advertise. Have a look at what you're posting and think if you were just someone finding your site looking for mental health stories/articles, would they be interested in continuing reading. Is the content going to make them stay on your site?
Once you achieve that, and having comments to prove people are reading, people will see benefits in advertising because they could also get a piece of your traffic.
