Where do you advertise

Twitter is a good way to promote your website IF you have any followers.

I use a plethora of sites and resources.

I find the most easiest and wallet-efficient resource is signature link advertising and word-of-mouth. Depending how you introduce your site to one, they may just have the urge because of the way you presented the site and the different things that happen.

Twitter is also effective. I simply use trending topics at the end of Tweets talking about my forum. Something like "Visit domainhere.com #forum today would really enlighten you! Powered by #(enter software here; eg. ipb) and a #contest is running now!" Would list your site in different searches.

I've listed my site to different search engines, and my favorite means of promotion is Forum Promotion. I've had more luck here than at any other promotion site.

Search Engines and Yahoo Answers. I get almost no hits from here, but Yahoo Answers and Search Engines give me a ton.

Yeah, I don't have very many hits from FP at all. A lot of my traffic comes from other places, including search engines.

How do you list sites on search engines? and is it free
You can submit links to them, but a GoogleBot or other such crawler will find your site eventually. I'd look into Search Engine Optimization for details on how to rise in the rankings.

For my new site I'm going to do Facebook advertising (yes paid) as well as Project Wonderful. I'm also going to do the regular SEO and signature advertising.

Facebook
Last.fm
Twitter
Wober
Forum Promotion
Autoclick
Link Referral
Search Engines

Good luck with that. I'd love to hear how it works out for you.

I usually advertise my forum through Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, ForumPromotion, search engines and visiting similar forums with a link towards my forum.

Promotion forums, though mainly FP and sometimes PS. On other sites, I usually just get packages and nothing else.

Search Engines, though even with PR 4 I don't think I get much traffic from them.

Twitter/Facebook. I've gotten a few members from there, though they've mainly been people who I've chatted to.

Signature advertising. It's simple, but can be effective.

Posting a link in the 'Advertising' forum of whatever forum I come across.

MSN, though I do that less often now. I used to add whoever I came across on forums, chat with them, then link them. I got a fair few members in the past by doing that, but now I have over 400 contacts, 90% of whom I don't know.

...yeah...

Other RPG forums, hundreds over the past couple years.
FP, Proboards support board, others.
Google brings in about 65% of our members though.
Also do affiliations and sig ads. They bring in small numbers of hits.

Tried to do twitter but for some reason it never let me sign up it always returned an error. So I gave up. never figured out why...

never really could get the hang of it anyway, and am too embarrassed to admit it XD You folks are the first witnesses to my confession: I don't get Twitter.

I have only been advertising around other forums and this place and it's worked out quite well so far.

Twitter has been quite a success for me, i've almost got 1000 followers and i've met some pretty interesting people, and got a lot of decent new members from there.
