I'm interested in getting a new theme for my site which runs wordpress. I've done a Google search and come across a few good ones. I don't mind paying a little bit of money, but I would prefer to pay a one-time fee rather then a yearly subscription which it seems some places are requiring.

So basically, where do you find your themes?

I've always used free themes when I start websites, and then I've looked into getting a designer later on. Free themes can be found in a lot of different places, but a good place to start is at your platform's website.

Finding a designer is a bit more tricky. You can find freelancers at a couple different specialized markets online, but it really helps if you happen to already know somebody!

I've always used free templates that are provided by the platform's website like pandaa says. However, if you're wanting to have a more unique look perhaps paid themes are the way to go for sure. I agree though that being required to pay a yearly subscriptions can get really pricey in the long run.

Paying yearly prices for websites is just wrong imo. Free themes at first (even though some are just dire) and then look for personal ones that are custom made 🙂

Honestly , if you look on YouTube like how to make WordPress themes , watch a few videos than take what you learned and attempt to make a theme. it's better if you made it 🙂

A place called Skinbox, but they've now been merged with another IP.B skin provider (I don't recall the name).

It wasn't terribly spiffy, but I've been able to modify it over the years to be a lot nicer.

When I eventually upgrade to IP.B 4 later this year, I'll be going with another dark theme, but certainly lighter than our current one.

My friend buy a theme and I copy the package to install for my blog. Anyway, I couldn't update the theme. However, till now, it run very well on my site

Forces of Steel has always expanded beyond the default theme that came with our MyBB installation. Not all downloadable themes are safe or functional, so we didn't want to take that risk.

It depends on the project, I guess. Sometimes, I use free themes, sometimes premium and sometimes custom. I normally research for reliable places to buy themes and I get them from a wide range of places. The latest theme for my forum is custom from a designer.

I first customize a free theme to make it more unique, and then once my community grows I move on to a premium or custom theme.

I use free themes until my forum attracts more members then usually try to find a better one or a custom one.

I got the theme for my forum from IP.Focus, which is an IPB theme site. Not free, but not too expensive either. Also a pretty popular theme, but I customized it a bit.
