Hi guys, if you have a site you might be using a free or paid hosting, your hosting side may also been using another hosting provider but this has to start from somewhere right? I want to know where is that? What and where is the base of hosting on the web/net.
Basically, you have to have a building with air conditioning, that has the ability to cool servers they have. Most datacenters has 1 or more backup centers, where it would be the backup, just incase something happens at the main datacenter.
I can assure you that you won't be building a datacenter any time soon unless you have quite a bit of real cash, and a team full of experienced technicians.
These are datacenters:
If you want to make a basic one, providing hosting to your own site, and maybe a few others then:
Basically you are turning a PC into a server through coding and hardware setup. Its something you will have to have done through university etc., as its a real job, a real business, not something you can whip up in 10 minutes.
Yes I've checked its wikipedia and david I know I may not be building it any time soon but I may build it later if I like it enough 😀
And thank you all for explaining.
You need a ton of money. Look up how much one server costs, and then factor in high electricity costs, ISP costs, generator costs (when there is a power outage), technical costs.
I'm not telling you to end your dreams now, but in reality there are tons of hidden costs.
BTW, you can not afford to turn a server off. One small glitch and expect all your users calling you and asking what has happened. This means you will need to hire service answerers and thus pay them, and that requires accountants etc. Basically, its something you need to start with a group of people if you want to get anywhere.
Yes I understand that now guys. BTW David is it possible to try it on a single PC just to get a feel to it or do some experiments, surely it will not host any outside sites but it would be good to know it better and to have an idea what it is all about.
Also any idea of what sort of hardware and coding is required for that?
It starts with ICANN. This is definitely something you won't be working on as you would need to either be a country leader, or submit an application to ICANN 😛
