Yeah thanks, I kinda know how to trawl the internet to find stuff like that, I was trying more to start up a discussion amongst like minded forum owners to see if there was a common area that we are all doing wrong or right, or even any new ideas from someone.

While I don't use adsense, I would think on a forum your main places of income would be these 3 places:

header, footer, and after the first post on topics.

That's how I use to do it when I did my early forums.

Never over-flood your site with ads, then just makes visitors to leave...

True, but the user asked the most optimal places. These are the 3 I know of.

In my experiance the header Banner is a waste of time, the only place i have ever know that to work was where the login box way overlayed over the adsense ad, so then getting occasional "accidental" click.

Inside the first, second, and third post can get more clicks, but I think it can be kind of annoying. The header, footer and maybe left and right vertical banners can earn clicks.

Footer doesn't earn many clicks unfortunately, froggy. THT, users HATE popups.

I agree footer don't earn many clicks.

But, if you limit each forum topic to a max of 4 replies per page, you might get more clicks.

I read for article marketing it is better to make a post a maximum of 500 words or less since people will be less likely to click on your links at the bottom of your resource box if your article is too long since some people won't finish reading your entire article before they reach your resource box with your website links.

-- Mon Aug 09, 2010 11:11 pm --

I agree footer don't earn many clicks.

i would like to know if there is any other legitimate ad program apart from google ad sense.

Adbrite, Chikita, Infolinks, and Kontera are all legitimate ad programs, but I heard they all pay less then Adsense.

I don't think 4 posts per page is a reasonable amount to be honest. I see 10 as the bare minimum

Normally header, after first post in topic work quite well. Normally they are seen more often and therefore used more often, just don't over-do it like after every post or everywhere or massive banners in topics. Otherwise it puts members off your forum, nevermind clicking your ads.

They hate them, but it was the best adsense placement. I got loads of money fast, the topic said which earns you the most, not which one is better 😛
