Which bank do you think is the best? Which one would you recommend? Which bank has the best customer service and savings accounts?

I personally hate banks, and my dads been a banker for 25+ years now. I really like credit unions. They really are for the member instead of trying to make millions in profits off of their members.

So I don't recommend any banks ๐Ÿ˜›

This. ๐Ÿ˜›

Most major banks charge abnormal fees for pretty much everything. With my local credit union, you pay $20 once to set up an account, and you don't have to pay them again. The people there a nice, friendly, local, and caring. If you decide to roll with a major player, you'll be in for some disappointment.

Exactly my thoughts. Been with the credit union I have been with for almost a year. Won $100 from them as they do a lot of competition as like you said they're for the member.

Mine is always free and next to me at all times. I name it empire banks lol

The two banks that I enjoy using, are Zions Bank and Wellsfargo. They have been pretty good to me. ๐Ÿ™‚

As you should be aware, banks that a consumer faces is not its only function. They will have sections for institutional clients, other corporations, options and prop trading, IB etc. That's where the real profit comes from, i.e. from large clients.

CC interest repayment is a function of how much you earn so you have complete control over that. Debit cards have may have no fees unless you overdraft or don't meet a monthly deposit target. For the average user, they make virtually no profit from you.

I used to be with Chase, and I loved their customer service and their online banking website was super easy to navigate and use to pay other accounts and bills with. I moved to the southern usa and Chase does not exist down here, so I gave them up for Bank of America. BoA is okay, but I do not like them as much as Chase. It's harder to pay your credit card bill (if you have a BoA cc linked to your Checking/Saving) than it was with Chase.

But I do use a credit union as well, and I have been very happy with those. They money you put in their accounts actually gives you "shares" of the credit union and you can gain some nice interest even in a checking account with them. And they are usually much more willing to work with you on a personal level. The only draw back is they aren't always large enough to loan you the money you need for some purchases (mortgages, etc...).

For my mortgage, I actually used Regions and I am happy with them as well. Their customer service is very good; you don't have to wait a long time to get in touch with someone and when you do they clearly answer your questions/concerns (from my experience).

Hope this helped somewhat

This really depends where you are regionally, what your monetary objectives are, and how much money you have.

Navy Federal is a great bank and it's all over the place. That said, you have to have a close family member who is in the military or was in the military in order to bank with them.

Been with Wells Fargo for years, love them. Going in the bank is easy, and they're super cool. Love them. ๐Ÿ˜€

Big banks such as Bank of America, that charges yearly fees and are not lenient on ATM fees and overdraft fees do bring them a lot of profit.

For example, this CNN Money article (http://money.cnn.com/2015/05/27/investi ... big-banks/) shows that three big banks brought in $1.1 billion JUST in overdraft fees. That is taking advantage of members.

My parents use AOD and it's a really good bank. I don't' really know any other ones. ๐Ÿ˜›

I'd pick a bank that has branches and ATM's nationwide. That way when you're in a different town, you can still use your bank. There's usually an extra fee when you're using a different bank's ATM.

Are there credit unions in the UK?

I use the local credit union. They're pretty awesome! They aren't out to screw you over as much as the big ones.

Yes, there are credit unions in the UK. I personally use banks instead though. Some banks here have very good offers too.

At least in the US, banks and credit unions are functionally the same. My credit union offers checking accounts, savings accounts, credit cards, debit cards, loans, mortgages, and all other services that you would expect from a bank. I even have both a business and personal account with them. I don't think there are any major advantages to going with a large bank, and if you need a service that only a large bank like BoA offers, then you can always open an account with both.

When it comes to ATMs: these are rarely needed if you have a credit card, and there's always cash back. I wouldn't make this a requirement for a bank.
