So im thinking of getting a domain name at some point for Blue Humor, but .com is taken. Now I would pick .net, but the more I think about it, is .org the better choice here? My site currently must obey the US laws, which limits us. However in two years, that wont be an issue as im moving my hosting out of country, where anything goes per say. That means the content will get better in some ways, and worse in others. Heres my thinking though, .org community's that have "bad" conent seem to do great, where .net's still dont.

4chan.org - Worlds largest imageboard
Failblog.org - Just a cool .org really
Suprbay.org 65,000 members, 6,000 active
I cant really find too many .net examples for this kind of content. Im not saying my site will host porn, warez, or anything of that nature, but will it get more vistors if its .org? Pleas evote and explain why below, any feedback helps -🙂-
Failblog is an amazing site... however I prefer .net domains, saying that my site does have a .org domain but that is because I couldn't register the .net domain for the domain I wanted to buy.
I think that .net would look better, as it really isn't an organization. As bluehumor(dot)com is parked, you could wait to see if they let it lapse (but a smart way to talk about bluehumor(dot)com is like this so that the person who owns it can't see that you want it. I'm doing that right now with a domain 😉
Anyway, its not so much how cool it sounds, its about how it can imply stuff to internet users. I have no idea when the .com expires, though I really doubt whoever has it will let it go. The other point is that "Blue Humor" means off color humor, which is often racist and things like that. Although its limited now, it wont be soon. It seems to me that most of the sites with "bad" or in this case "off color humor" are .org. So far with talking with my co-admin were leaning toward the .org for that reason, for the future, not so much the "now".
Who really cares whether or not if it's an organization. My forum domain is "www.fratal.org," yet .com, .net were all still available. I just chose .org because it sounded best.
I know you don't care which sounds best, but that's what most people care about when it comes to choosing domain names. 🙂
Well the issue is, my parents wont let me get anything because of my grades right now. I might get both, but then which should I use as my main that I want to get a high google ranking on? That doesnt solve anything.
Im not too worried about other people stealing, I can always get an out of country domain like .se or something if all else fails -😉-
Well by using both it could hurt my googe PR correct? Thats why im not SEO'ing the crap out of my site now, because I figure theres no point if the domain will switch.
