I know the second pages links do not work. [because i haven't created any yet] But as a front page which is better? What can be improved on both?

I'd say the 2nd one looks better but the background needs changing, look for neat template it might just be the thing thats missing there.

Looking absolutely fine to me. The colors and the text are well versed and combined to give a soothing and professional look.
