Which is the fastest loading operating system for older PCs?

Re: Which is the fastest loading operating system for older

when it come to windows you can use Windows 98 / 2000 (but sorry to say that Microsoft has stopped providing services for those)

else, you could try puppy linux or open suse... 😉

Just remember the more stuff you add the more bloated and slow it will perform.

I normally just use MSconfig to disable most of my start-up programs, services except for my antivirus and firewall, and my speed does not decrease much from installing too many programs since only my antivirus, firewall, and the default windows processes like explorer.exe starts when Windows start.

Re: Which is the fastest loading operating system for older

i think the Ubuntu os is the better one.

Re: Which is the fastest loading operating system for older

ubuntu is fastest seriously

Re: Which is the fastest loading operating system for older

Ubuntu would not even be able to load on a old PC.

It is geared toward todays pc standards, which it fails with.

So suggesting it for old pcs is quite silly.

Re: Which is the fastest loading operating system for older

Indeed, Ubuntu 7.10 might be a good choice since I remember using it on a computer with a 1.7 GHz CPU and 256MBs of RAM, and it works at a decent speed. The PC is now almost 10 years old.

So you rather use an out of date, very buggy, less secure, and no longer supported version of ubuntu over something up to date like gee idk freebsd or tiny core linux?

Sounds kinda silly dontcha think?

Re: Which is the fastest loading operating system for older

I think my simple XP ghost would be the best choice for you at the moment. Because it took you only 3 seconds for loading.

I try on: Pen IV 1800 - Memory: 768 MB SDR - HDD: 20,00 GB Maxthon

DSL, hence the name (DamnSmallLinux) I have never tried it, but its claimed to be the lightest Linux out there.

Re: Which is the fastest loading operating system for older

Was just gonna say DSL lol. But anyhow PuppyLinux is good too, used that for a bit off a flashdrive.

Re: Which is the fastest loading operating system for older

I been using PuppyLinux on a older 1.7 GHz CPU with only 256MB of RAM, and it been working great on my older PC when I use it.

DSL is no longer under active development sadly.

Now that Firefox is updated and running well, you may be able to run it on operating systems like Windows XP.

Re: Which is the fastest loading operating system for older

I thought FireFox was always compatible on Windows XP. I haven't heard that Firefox is no longer releasing updates for XP.
