Which RAM for my PC?

I am using 8GB of RAM for a PC and wanted to upgrade it to 16GB to play some games that I like or better to process graphics. If I want to add more RAM to my computer, how can I buy something compatible? Where to check and What kinds are there? How do I determine which kind my computer will accept and how much I can add?

Do you guys share some advice?

Thanks
Tommy

Depends on what the motherboard supports, so if it's a custom computer, look up the model of the board. If it's a pre-built, look up the model of the computer.

You can also post whichever here, and I'll let you know what you can get.

Exactly I forgot this factor which I asked when I built my PC.
so if it's a custom computer
You are right, it is a custom PC, I built it for games years ago.
look up the model of the board
I don't want to open PC case and see this info, is there a tool or way to check this?
I ran dxdiag but seem it didn't tell me exactly number or model of the board.

do you know what mother board you have> It's more likely to be DDR3 memory and you need to open the case to see if you have free slots available or at least see if you have 4 to 8 slots.

Also you need to open the case to insert them lol To see the details on your hardware you need to open up the case. Windows doesn't tell you what the model number is, only tells you the details on your CPU, GPU and for ram the size that you have installed.

If you still don't know how to do it then open up the case and take images so that we can look what you have and get the model number of the motherboard

I know it when I run dxdiag command but it didn't show exactly name and id, just brand name.
I can open the case but it is not my choice because it is not convenient to do that.
I would check via commands and after I know name of mother board, I can search it and find RAM compatible with it .

This will tell you the model of your board, how many slots you have available, and what RAM you currently use:

Thanks I will check it out.
Just visited the link and it looks like a good tool there which I am needing.

u know now?

Of course, with the tool that Tucker933 suggested then I know exact name of motherboard
But I need to research about my motherboard to know I can install how much RAM on it or how to setup things.

This is absolutely correct. The RAM will depend on the motherboard you have on your computer.

DDR3 Ram is what you got and for the age then my guess you have 4 slots of 240-pin. All you need to know now is what RAM Speed that your motherboard supports! 1600MHz maybe? or lower at 1333MHz
