Which type of social media post gets more attention for your site?

There are various types of social media posts you can make, a simple post, a poll, ask a question, quote someone, share a photo, video, podcast, etc... Which one have you had the most success with?

Rage bait does a good job for sure on Facebook. I follow pro wrestling pages which do this and get super good engagement.

Pro-Wrestling's marketing is far different than the typical marketing. Because in the wrestling world, there's "good guys," who are known as "face" characters (gimmick). There's "bad guys," who are known as "heel" characters (gimmick). Each character has a way to get the other person "over." Its not rage bait, they're marketing. Its actually pandering to that particular current storyline.

For example, right now. Yes, literally right now, we are on the road to WrestleMania. The biggest match on the card is Roman Reigns, and Cody Rhodes. The heel is a champion, the face is the challenger in that storyline. Here, they're trying to "push" Rhodes. But there's another match that's just as big. Rey Mysterio vs Dominik Mysterio. Now, in this case, Rey is face, Dom is heel, but in this case, they're trying to put Dom over. Including Rey, because its his son. Passing of the torch. Rey is being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.

My point is, rage bait isn't the idea for it. The idea is to sell characters via storyline.

To better understand, and this can be applied to politics.

Now, @Katrina, you're asking HOW to get attention to your site. I don't know which site you're talking about in your question, but I'll use Christianity Haven as the prime example here. This past weekend - and please don't get mad, and please just hear me out. This past weekend there was a tragedy that hit a private Christian school. The best time to actually get "attention" for your site, would have been right on the heels of the news. You don't actually need to be rage baity with this one, you can just make a thread discussing the issue... Your thread can be an article - a news article. Type it out, and get some posts in there. And then, start marketing. You don't need to be rage baity, as I said, just use the story as a way to get the news out there. Don't worry about immediate conversion, worry about how search engines find your content. If new users see it, let them decide to get in there. If they don't like it, tough luck.

What I am saying is, use your forum as a news website.

Your job as administrator or owner is to attract people to your site - whether it's good, or bad. If bad actors are on your site, you know what to do. But, what I'm saying is, start thinking on your feet, start thinking like a marketing person - Who do I want to attract? Where do I want to find them? How do I reach them? Marketers always have these questions. Who is this news article for? If it's on a christian website, then you know who to target - christians.

If they think its controversial - SO. WHAT? It falls under this idea of... rage bait. Posts that are "rage bait" has the intent of controversy. Which is why I said Pro-Wrestling's marketing doesn't *technically* have to be rage bait, as I pointed out earlier.

Those are excellent examples in there! Thanks 🙂

Some of those social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter, and elsewhere seem to be solely designed as outrage sharebait and it works every single time. I am aware of what pro wrestling is and the terms. I am saying there's social media accounts intended to provoke a response just so they can get engagement. Sometimes they give bad takes on purpose just for the sake of it too.

Thing is: those "headlines" for ragebait, sharebait don't fit the storylines. Some people are doing marketing wrong. That's why I disagree. It doesn't apply to some industries. For example, there are journalists that post fake articles, and use exactly what you explained above. I know what the results are gonna be, but at the end of the day, the person seeing the post will either be interested or disappointed. If you disappointed the person, the ragebait/sharebait becomes clickbait, and people hate it.

I don't recommend any of what I just said. You end up expecting the wrong things, the wrong ideas.

I just avoid ragebait.

I would say that when you post on Instagram, more people will find your website than when you post on Facebook.

I think Instagram is easier, so it's easier for people to see what your site is about. It's about sharing and liking more on Facebook, so the user puts more effort into it.

I will have to oppose your thought. My experience tells me more people click links on Facebook compared to Instagram. SInce social media marketing for your website is all about having more clicks on your links, Facebook is a clear winner.

Maybe but for me..it's Twitter and Instagram. Try Twitter.. you will get more and more clicks as compared to Facebook.

Instagram DOES NOT allow linking. I think you're talking about reels with links. In that case, your account MUST be a business account to utilize it.

Facebook, and Twitter are best for linking and converting users.

It doesn't work for half of the websites as the people use free promotion and this leads to block facebook links.

Yeah. Thing is, THAT result is because the people doing it is not doing meticulous marketing. They're spamming the same article, but molding the article to be clickbait.

Here's an example of what I mean:

Roman Reigns kicked Jey Uso out of the Bloodline. [Link Article A]

Then the next day is;

Jey Uso gets out of the Bloodline in fued with Roman Reigns. [Link Article A]

#2 is true. So, users are justified in reporting #1.

Another example is A and B. Two different Articles, but different Links.

Dom Mysterio berates his dad as "Deadbeat" Dad. [Link A]

Dom Mysterio calls his dad a "deadbeat" dad. [Link B]

Both are correct, BUT you're being coy here. You're using the same story, but different links to push people there. Most of the time, the second article is fake, and is the true clickbait, and so the users are going to report #2.

Here's the thing though; ragebait is taking THESE methods, and making people pissed off. I see this on YouTube for wrestling, and I don't hate them for it, because people are being obnoxious. They think the article is old, or wrong, or whatever.

This is probably because people are sanitized by Facebook wrestling pages. So people think they're annoyed. So these wrestling YouTubers get mass reported sometimes because people are just dumb.

I've had the most success using Facebook. I typically will see that Facebook is crawling my site, and I've posted the link to my forum a few times there. I've been meaning to update my Facebook pages since I've merged my three forums together.

I tend to get more attention on Twitter but at the moment, that is the only place I tend to post a lot of stuff for my forum. I need to get better at using Instagram and also Facebook as I know both of them do give good results if you use them consistently.

Video is the most effective. However, aside from drumming performances and some other stuff, I don't like being on video, but anyway, I'm guessing video is usually the most effective, but not always.

Instagram for the past couple of months. Additionally, we've found effective communication channels in microsoft teams whatsapp, which play a pivotal role in our customer outreach. These platforms provide a seamless way to interact with a large number of people simultaneously, enabling us to keep them informed about any changes, promotions, or sales happening in our shop. The real-time communication aspect of these tools enhances our ability to stay connected with our customer base and ensures that they are always in the loop regarding the latest updates from our business.

Of the most recent posts I made on a Twitter I manage for a Pokemon Discord community, the posts that saw the highest engagement were during the 12 Days of Pokemas that I did at the beginning of the year. Some days were better than others, but compared to tweets about an upcoming Showdown tourney and just general stats about the Discord game itself, the more original tweets got far more engagement and attention. Including images has helped a lot too with gaining attention. Retweets and tweets with trending hashtags in them also saw higher than average attention compared to other tweets.
