The background can change when you customize the color of your profile, it changes the whole site to that color just for you.
 
The site looks good. The banner is suitable and not too large.
 
I would suggest maybe a new theme.

If you choose to keep this theme, I would highly suggest getting a banner.

I also do not see the point of have More Discussion forum. When it can all fit into the Lounge forum.
