White SEO vs Black SEO

Black Hat SEO practices are generally designed to improve your standing in search engines quicker... But they employ tactics that are unfair, dishonest or deceitful. (Things like cramming all kinds of things into meta-tags that have nothing to do with your site type so this way your site gets listed along side other, legitimate, sites of that type. EX- you have a videogame forum devoted to Call of Duty and have meta tags for: heavy metal, NCIS and The Avengers plus a dozen more.)

Most search engines though now have measures to mitigate Black Hat techniques. (So like in that meta-tag example I mentioned, Google may check to see what your site is about and if it finds no mention of NCIS or The Avengers along with a half dozen other tags then it may penalize your site and drop it's rankings. If it's severe enough they may remove your site altogether.)

White hat SEO is basically just following the rules. So no hiding extra keywords or buying any mass link packages like you might see on SEOclerks.
White hat SEO relies on accurate tagging for your site, legitimate users/sites providing links to your site and your natural growth rate (aka users joining or searching for your site). Which means white hat SEO takes a lot more time to do, so it is a more long term solution, but white hat tactics won't get your site banned from search engines. (Which is kind of important if you want your site to really succeed.)

Well, people get result from black hat seo too, but they don't last longer, as soon as they caught by Google, they would heavily be penalized.

Google has AI built into the bots to detect black hat SEO now. It's name is Panda or Penguin IIRC.

Black Hat or White Hat SEO?

I always have preferred the White Hat methods, as they last for a longer time and honestly will show a higher return then Black hat methods. Though, in the past I have bought websites that have already had Black Hat methods put in place by the previous owner (buying bulk backlinks) which was great at first as it was ranked very high in Google for various keywords though after a while they all dropped off. What do you prefer, Black Hat or White Hat SEO? I think to be on the safe side any website owner should stick to White Hat methods. (natural backlinks and backlink building) etc.

Re: Black Hat or White Hat SEO?

White hat all the way... And is it possible to find out if a website you want to buy has used black hat seo?

Honestly, I am not exactly sure. You can do backlink checks and then manually go through the backlinks to see which ones are white hat or not by the look of them. Would be a interesting tool to have though online, not sure how it would work though.

I personally use ahrefs.com

Re: Black Hat or White Hat SEO?

Black Hat is a big "No Way" these days, use them and you risk being penalised by Google, they will catch up with you.

Checking backlinks is a good way to find out if a site has been using Black Hat, if there are large concentrations of links from one site, it is a sure site that some kind of link farming has been used.

Re: Black Hat or White Hat SEO?

I don't really like defining black hat and white hat SEO. I would consider blackhat SEO as hacking sites for links and doing something malicious but really every SEO is trying to manipulate google in some shape or form.

Natural backlinks in terms of earning them through the content you write would be considered whitehat SEO but if you are specifically going to a site to get backlink it should automatically be considered blackhat SEO.

I am not saying I support the automation of blackhat SEO as I prefer getting higher quality links by doing it manually but I am defiantly not against people who do automation.

Re: Black Hat or White Hat SEO?

Doing any black hat activity will result in search engine penalize your website so I don't advice you to do black hat at all :/

Black Hat SEO?

What is black hat SEO? How does it effect on your website? Is it good tactic or bad?

Re: Black Hat SEO?

"Black Hat" SEO are techniques that are used to get higher search engine rankings in an unethical manner. These black hat SEO techniques usually include one or more of the following characteristics:

  • Breaks search engine rules and regulations
  • Creates a poor user experience directly because of the SEO techniques utilized on the website
  • Unethically presents content in a different visual or non-visual way to search engine spiders and search engine users

To sum it all up, "Black Hat" SEO is definitely something you do not want to do on any website if you want it to be successful in the long run. It can help you for short gains, though the search engines usually pick up on it and will either ban your website or penalize you greatly. I would suggest to stick to "White Hat" SEO techniques.

Re: Black Hat SEO?

By it's very nature all SEO is trying to cheat the system by making search engines think your site is better than any other, the only difference between black and white hat is what the Google standard tolerates and what it doesn't, that line is getting finer with every penguin and panda update that is issued.

This is on of the reasons why backlining using anchor text is becoming more important, and where authorship is becoming more relevant, in the future not only will you need to have a site with good content, you will also need good authorship ranking as well.
