I am discussing ad networks that specialize ads for each user (on their interests), NOT random ads that are paid for by individuals specifically for your site.

This is why ads are great for your visitors:
Visitors. People. Stop complaining about ads. Stop blocking them. They are good for everyone.
Ads, when specialized for each visitor, actually display things that you are interested in. Have you noticed that you see ads similar to stuff you've searched for? What about on Facebook? Ads are specialized for your publicly declared interests & common activity.
Youtube videos are commonly displayed (on the right) as suggestions for you based on your interests as well.

The ads actually ENHANCE your internet experience. Do you think I would have ever found some sites that I did without clicking on an ad? Nope. I would not have found them at all. So thank you Advertisements.

So people. Stop complaining about ads.
And admins, add some on your site if you have not already!

Suggestions maybe. But I don't click ads. In fact, I have never clicked a single ad in all my time online, and I've never found a new site via one.

I just don't care about them because I know they're necessary for a site to keep running without charging people for content or features.

Regarding this part: "NOT random ads that are paid for by individuals specifically for your site."

Are you talking about things like BuySellAds and PublicityClerks? I've always thought they delivered the highest quality ads personally.

I'm talking about ads that may not even relate to the site they're being shown on. Ads that are strictly based on each user's personal likes, interests, etc.

Are there networks that actually do this, and do it successfully? If there are, I would love to know about them. If you do not want to post them publicly, please do send me a PM with them. 🙂

Pat, I find great stuff on Facebook.
On Amazon and EBay I constantly find products that magically relate to my actual interests.
On YouTube I sometimes get annoyed at not having as many random videos as the olden days (they're still there, but there's also recommended videos based on my watch history).

Tbh, I have a chrome plugin called ghostry, it stops ads tracking/spying on what sites i visit.

its not the fact that ads are relevant for us and could hold info for what we have been looking for, its the fact that many users are ad-blind. Any text or image thats in a small square or rectangle is harder to see than a large body of text. Im so ad blind that i skip images related to a blog. Most site owners keep the ads in the same place and so the users will get used to what part of the site to skip over.
