Why are people so picky about themes?

Ok, this forum has a less than pleasing theme, and is on an even more ugly forum software (Proboards): http://cherubseries.proboards.com/index.cgi

Yet still, it has over 17k members and over one million posts. Most paid hosted forums with a TLD will be lucky to get that large, if they even do.

What does this prove? Good management and good content are far more important than software, domains and themes.

Definitely this... though it's not a bad idea to keep software, domains and themes in mind. 😉

Looks like everyone's just making an excuse for having a horrible theme. If you want to have an edge, do your best. Why should you whine about people recommending that you actually try to do something well

I've never really cared about themes. I've always been more interested in content. You may wonder why I put so much emphasis on themes in my reviews when I just said that I don't care about them. I do so because so many people look at themes. 😉 Most of the forums I've really enjoyed in the past haven't had extremely pleasing themes. That being said, a lot of the forums out there that have awesome themes are sort of crappy content-wise in my opinion. That doesn't mean that ALL forums with good themes are bad, though. 😉

IF you want to have an edge. At this time and date, there are as many boards as intention with them. Some people rather focus in other things, it not an excuse, it is a different point of view.

I know there are some forums that are really deserving of the comment about being a very bad theme, but sometimes just for having a very simple community someone will tell you are not doing it well, simply because you don't have the same priority or vision than them. For this thread, it is more about people being jerks about it that someone giving genuine constructive criticism. Not all of us have the same skill and resource to make our forums stand out from the rest in terms of graphics. Granted tehre is always time to change that with dedication, but it is a process, and some people are terribly cruel with young communities just getting the hang out of it.
