Why are social networks that successful?

Man I wish I made a unique social network then 1 billion people joined it and I would be rIcH.

This isn't the objective of hundreds or thousands, but of millions of people all over the world. To achieve that kind of dream, I can't think on nothing but hard work, creativity and a great team of people with the will to succeed.

Facebook isn't unique. It was just like myspace. They just wanted to solve the obvious issues other networks do. (example)

I'm agree. The dela here is that FaceBook is far more user friendly and more attractive than MySpace right now.

I was talking about the past, but yeah. Myspace is just awful now

Just because they are completely free and they are giving a way for us to interact.

I feel the thing that makes social networks so popular is the fact that it is a way to keep in touch with friends and relatives all over the world that doesnt cost anything. Its more than just being able to talk to them, social networks give a view into their everyday lives which brings them closer together even if they are on the other side of the globe

It is because a small group of people thought it was funny to constantly annoy each other with messages, and photos, and like the big herd we all are, we started following it. It is typical sheep behavior.

Because honestly, in the beginning it is fun to receive messages and send photo's and stuff, and at that point it is just for fun. But the more you do it, the more you need and have to. Others start demanding that you send them messages or photos, and because we don't want to be rude, we do as we are asked. That way more and more people start doing it every day, until it grows to be a site like Facebook.

Meh...forums are vastly superior. The main reason that they're not as popular is that 4chan and Gaia take up most of the membership.
