Why are some forum discussions so popular?

Do you have some discussions on your forum that get zero responses, while others get dozens or even hundreds of responses? What is it about those posts that make them so popular?

They're posts that people can relate to and posts that people cannot relate to. People sometimes feel uncomfortable discussing some things in a public board as well. Without any examples though, its hard to tell exactly why it is that some posts are more popular.
