They (Forum Promotion) haven't tried hard enough, no offense. Possibly they are relying on SEO and social media - so in that case, they're simply not getting enough traffic to be a powerhouse.

What do they have to do? They need to get massive capital to get 10X more visitors than now and then possibly focus on selling a product (but not the selling of banner ads).

Some forums have managed to get a lot of traffic via social media and possibly SEO. In that case, they have enough to get banner ads, but it's only enough to pay the bills. However, as quoted, there is a way to make the situation profitable, not public television.

I sometimes wanted to ask forum owners how they earn and how much they earn. One local forum with a good number of active members had an issue among the owners regarding profitability. It's owned by about 15 members who are the backbone of that forum. When talks about profit emerged in the board meeting, fireworks flew. I suspect that they are quarreling because of the big profit.

Profitability is going to be based on the total number of unique visitors, the bounce rate, and the total time on site. If you are using Adsense, the typical visitor is only going to be worth a small amount of change. It is when they actually click on ads that you can make real money, but very few people will. So, there needs to be massive flow into the site and an extremely active community.

Well my forums generate allot of money $.

Stickies, Upgrades, Awards bla bla bla...

That is mainly where the real money comes from but having ads on a forum wont generate enough money.

The only way to make money with ads would be to make your own network and don't use adsence etc.

You can sell ads to members (Monthly ads) using https://www.buysellads.com/ this would get you way more money then using an ad network.
