i started my forum very recently because afetr many hours of searching the world wide web i couldn't find a single message board where i could freely discuss my passion and i knew from speaking to friends and searching places like myspace and bebo that there was other people like me who wanted to discuss, gossip and oggle our passions so i ventured out and decided to start up a message board i don't know if it will take off or whether it will fall flat on it's face but i've worked hard and pray it succeeds. i also enjoy the freedom of actually running it ~smile~
Just because I'm interested in languages. Not to learn them completely, just for being able to say some sentences in peoples own language. But all the forums I did find where always about one language. And usually with people who are really learning it. That's the reason...
A couple of years ago I was on a forum which was for the 'alternative' community of my town. This was a relatively small forum with about 5 or 6 regular posters. One day we decided that we were going to create a fanzine where we could talk about the music scene in and around our area. After a lot of discussions on this topic, nothing ever happened.
Eventually I decided to take matters into my own hands and I created a webzine called "ARSE!". It was basically the same idea as the fanzine, but we could do it all online. At first the other members of the forum were really interested in and soon enough "ARSE!" had it's own forum.
However, after a while the input from the other members (both on the forum and on the webzine) became less and less and I soon found that I was writing all of the reviews and interviews. Due to this and a couple of other reasons (which I won't go into now), I decided to abandon the site.
After a while I got bored and longed to write stuff again and be a part of a forum community, so I created Loucifer Speaks. This started off purely as a webzine, but as more and more people visited it I received quite a few requests for a forum to be added to it... so, I added a forum. 🙂
The forum has been open since March and I think it's doing pretty well 😀
After being a mod and admin on other forums I wanted somewhere where I could do my oen and develope my own ideas. I'm pleased with the way it's turned out.
My friend and I were surfing and trying to find more than what we were finding regarding our passion . Just little groups here and there but nothing huge with what we wanted to do . I had already had a jovi forum but we decided to combine our two favorite passions , writing and jovi together. Thinking we would really be the only two members we never dreamed we would be as sucessful as we are.
i started mine because i wanted somewhere for the members of my guild initially to meet up and plan what was going to happen in WoW, it has grown a bit since then and there are alot of things covered, we still do mnot have a huge member base however and ojnly a few regular posters but hopefully it will take off as all are welcome who are interested in the game
I started ours as a simple web design forum because although there ar many many more out there, I wanted to run my own and use it as a resource and information centre, which will hopefully attract a lot of search engine traffic.
Although there are a million and 1 tutorial sites out there for various things, there's nothing like real people posting their ideas and instructions. You can't ask a normal website a question!
Tyria it's hard when the administration or moderators on a forum are unfair or biased. Even if what you said hurt the sensitivities of some people they management should address it privately, not flame you in front of the whole board, I think that was very bad conduct.
I created mine simply because my bookmark list was getting out of hand with all different forum niches that i was a member of, i used to visit computing forums, gaming, sports, political debates etc etc, and most of those forums have like a little section where other discussions take place,
i was fed up with it and all of a sudden i had the idea of trying out a forum where i can bring together all these most popular niches (and others) where all of them can be discussed in a vast and extensive manner without restrictions.
Currently am running it on IBPFree for a period of 6 months, if its successful with active member base then am buying a fully licensed board. I've got the funds ready to one side for it, so fingers cross that a lot of people will like this idea.
