Why do/did people hate disco?

Some said it's not for tough guys and/or was mechanical and generic. At one time it was a thing of pride to say you didn't like it. But then again, that was a long time ago. I was only in preschool.

It's less dignified and looking at it nowadays it seems alien. It'll be the same for us, times go on and fade out.

Yeah, but a lot of people hated disco even when it was popular.

Disco was an outgrowth of Philly soul - which was awesome and also funk. However, the sometimes over-commercialized mix was a turn-off to some.
