Why do people dislike math?

What are some reasons? I think a big reason is cause people are forced to take it, but they don't want to fool with it and/or they're not good at it.

some do have an learning disability to consider where it would take little longer then others. that;s if you are taking about maths. LOL

Not bragging, but algebra is like kindergarten to me (but it wasn't in high school). However, the higher stuff like Calculus II requires massive work (to master procedures) and it isn't so easy.

I dislike it for the trigonometry part and remembering all those formulae and equations to prove them.

Computer classes (ironically) I didn't like in college, but they weren't about web development and they were before I got into that stuff. Also, teacher education stuff was incredibly dull, but then again, if you really want to go into that, you have to sort of learn to like it.

Think back to your years in primary and secondary school. Your language/literature teachers probably loved to read. Your history teachers probably found history endlessly interesting. Your science teachers probably enjoyed science.

But your math teachers? Did they love math? Mine didn't. My sixth grade math teacher spent his classes telling funny stories masquerading as word problems; most of the students liked him, because both his sense of humor and his math skills were at about the same level as theirs. I learned nothing from him, except the lesson that not all adults are worthy of respect. I remember making a conscious decision - strange for a studious kid - not to bother paying attention to him in class.

I don't think that's true at all. What @Empire brought up isn't the norm. I mean, math majors tend to love math. But it is true a lot of people don't like math, but not math majors.

If he was getting across word problems as funny stories, then he was probably a good teacher. He's good at communication and how can you say he was at the same level as the students? Also, you claim he hated math, but probably that wasn't the case.

I don't speak for other people. But my own personal reasons are that I suck at math. It was very hard for me and normally things that are so difficult I tend to back away from, because I got discouraged. For the most part I would either flunk algebra or geometry. My own wife even tells me that I'm mathematically retarded.
