Common habits of most webmasters is to offer to much to soon. Arcade here, V.I.P membership there. Category this, forum that, I hope you get the point.
We all are or were culprits of this in some way or another regarding our sites and forums. Now, keep reading please as what I am about to tell you will hopefully make sense. I may have disagreements here and there, but think about it, and maybe, just maybe you will agree on something I write.
Actually before I continue I want to mention, that this will not always pertain to your site, as some sites may actually discuss everything. Random Talk forums, General Discussion Forums, etc.
Now, as I was saying, offering to much to soon is sometimes a turn off. For instance, If I was to have a gaming forums, that's great, awesome, what's wrong a gaming forum. Now on top of that I am going to throw in a arcade, a graphics category with some forums inside that.
I then throw in a forum about reviews, walkthroughs, and cheats. Would make sense right? Sure, now I go on doing this for maybe a month, all looks good, but what happens when there's nothing more to give, nothing more to offer? Contests sure, but after that?
Instead, offer what you know first. If your starting a gaming forum, add the graphics forum later on, add the arcade a year down the road, vote on it first or something. Don't rush your site as it's more important to find the stable body to help support it. Continue to get to know the people, and get your name out there. All sites take time, don't try to offer so much to soon.
No forum or website can continue with out the right foundation. You can always renovate and add additions on to it later. You always wanna offer something to excite your members, making more arrive. If there is nothing more to supply, then nothing really continues on.
I hope this makes somewhat of sense.. Questions or suggestions feel free. Arguments are welcomed as well !!
