Why MyBB is superior to phpBB

You might be wondering why I'm making this topic. Well, there are many reasons. One is that I hate seeing these topics like "OMGOMG, I CANT INSTALL DIS MOD IN PHPBB", and another is that I just wanted to share this information. First off, MyBB is superior to phpBB. No doubt about it. There is no hassle with editing tons of files, and then seeing your work disappear. You just upload a few files, and click "Install & Activate". After that, the mods for MyBB are, in fact, also superior. Such as MyPlaza. The phpBB cash MOD doesn't have any settings like "Money Per Referral" or "Minimum Characters Per Post." Now, you might be thinking "Wow, is the only advantage of MyBB the simpleness of installing MODs?" Well, no. In MyBB, you don't have to spend hours of setting permissions on a few forums. You can simply just use the group default, which is also default when you create a new forum!

This is all I can handle right now, there are three cans of energy drink and 10 cans of caffeinated beverages right in front of me.

phpbb has better control of what users may do. Other than that, basically MyBB is the best. 😉

I'm actually thinking of putting Webverts on MyBB.... That is once they have the addons I need. 😉 . I am making a community type forum with MyBB though. 😀

Well... I can code all the services I need if they don't have them but meh.. I may talk about this with the staff. We have been thinking of using Vb but this is almost like Vb. :cheer:

LiteSoft is 99% like vB, but there are barely any themes or mods. In fact, I think I just found another good mod...

Hmm... I'm not too keen with the MyBB plugins because of MyBB Central. 🙁 I may sort something out though. MyBB seems very interesting.

It is based off of vB, I would use it but there are no themes and mod's for it.

No, there are few themes and MODs for it. Didn't say there were none.

I use MyBB, it's great, I don't plan on ever going back to phpBB but that's not to say I don't like phpBB at all, far from it.

My experience with MyBB is just that good.

Permissions are usually managed group wise, but you have full per-user support as well.

I also find the C-panel much better.

I wouldn't say MyBB is like vB because it definitely has it's own charm but there are similarities. They've said they are striving for vB quality.

I haven't used the portal much, I know it's highly customizable but I don't know how to edit the portal layout.

Wow, this thread hasn't been hijacked by phpBB3 fanboys yet? *Shock! Horror!* I've been using MyBB on my forum since last August. I'm very satisfied with the software in the whole. The main thing I love about it is how easy it is to install MODS on it. Takes me under two/three minutes depending on the speed of the Internet connection.

The only problem I have is the lack of good skins which is why I've hired a guy to code one for me.

Everyone has different opinions 😉 I personally find phpBB to be much easier and more customizable on my end, although you find it completely different and I respect that :great:

This is one area I find mybb lacking. It comes by default with a portal,but unlike lets say simple portal of smf or unreal portal of ipb,it lacks a simple gui editor. You have to know coding to add and edit things.

As for mybb being better then phpbb I agree mostly,but mybb does need alot more mods.
