Agreed. IPB is obviously better than either phpBB3 or MyBB... But it costs 150$. Jeez.... Like not that many of us can afford that. If you can, good for you, but don't rub it in our face.

Also, at the very lest, try to write one complete sentence per post.

No matter what anyone says at the end of the day it comes to what the person prefer. If you new to forming or not expert at coding MyBB maybe for you but if you a master at coding phpBB many be for you since you can customize to your liking.

He was not rubbing it in your face because it look like that he doesn’t have a paid IPB but a free one from jcink. So you just give me negative Rep for saying that IPB is the best Forum Software.

Everyone who has their head screwed on knows that IPB and vB are better than any of the free varieties. But this is a thread dedicated to two free software solutions.

I thought that the guy was being a bit pretentious, but now it turns out he was an idiot. The difference between you and him is that you do not make stupid spam comments about how IPB is better. He does.

I'm not a huge fan of IPB and I'd still probably use MyBB over vB even if I could afford vB.... IMO vB is overpriced, and I'd rather have something that is Open Source that I can contribute to in some way.

vB may be the best at the moment but no commercial software can keep up with the Open Source community and eventually, vB will fall behind. MyBB has made great strides so far, but it's going to take time.

I have faith in MyBB not just because I find the software very efficient but because I know the determination of the community who built it.

So you have two options... shell out a $100-some/year license to run something like vB or get involved elsewhere and do something about it.

The think is, while I love vB software wise, I in no way think it's "the way to go" or "the future of forums".

Not that there is always a problem with commercial software, but the tactics of some companies to charge you not once but for as long as you use it, even if you opt not to upgrade, I'm sorry but that doesn't interest me.

So my point being, there is much more to having great forum software than the technical aspect of it and you should ask yourself how much freedom you truly have.

As for phpBB, While I now use MyBB, I had used phpBB for several years and still have a great deal of respect for it and what the phpBB community has accomplished.

Dragon Master, While I don't think a Dragon would be very happy about bowing down to somebody... I love the avatar. 🙂

The only problem I have is the lack of good skins which is why I've hired a guy to code one for me.

I don't think the problem is lack of good skins as lack of skins in general. 🙁

I'm fond of the black4evo skin which I use a modified version of.

It is a bummer that there aren't that many skins, I don't really judge MyBB for it though.

This is one area I find mybb lacking. It comes by default with a portal,but unlike lets say simple portal of smf or unreal portal of ipb,it lacks a simple gui editor. You have to know coding to add and edit things.

This is a major problem to be sure, however in all fairness, MyBb does have a powerful and easy use template and theme editor to make that a bit easier.

You still have to know how to code, but then that gives you many more options as well.

In my opinion, phpBB is the best free, and vBulletin will always be the best premium option, from experience managing most kinds of forum software (that i know of, anyway).

So what in your experience leads you to believe that phpBB3 is the best free option? Come on man, give use some reasons. Without backing up your statement with reasons, I'm inclined to disregard it.
