I have been seeing the acronym SEO all around the internet lately as if everything now depends on SEO. Last week there was an interview on the evening news of 2 SEO specialists. They said that SEO is the biggest thing for this year so everyone should be aware of it. And being an SEO specialist at this early will give you an advantage. Well, I am wondering because from what I know, SEO means search engine optimization which is all about the search engine list. If you aer good at SEO then maybe you can make your site be the number 1 in the search list of Google or any other search engine. And being first in the list gives you the advantage of getting walk in traffic when the searcher would click on the link of your site from the search list.

SEO when done properly gives you the luxury of having the search engines promote your website or blog free of charge for you.

It helps stop Googlebot from spinning endlessly in a dynamically generated calendar or unoptimised set of pages lol

I've seen that happen before, it just goes completely berserk, and has all sorts of nasty consequences. If you mean stuff beyond making a site navigable to bots, usually you want to answer someone's question.

Someone wants something they want to know, and your site answers that query.
How do you best line up with that? What sort of questions might someone ask? Etc.

I wouldn't actually tell that search engines are going to promote your website, not for free obviously🙂 But yes, with SEO you'll have much better chances of appearing higher in SERP.

If the search engines place my websites on their first page without me having to pay them and I am getting targetted traffic from them then I consider them in my employ 🙂

I wouldn't actually tell that search engines are going to promote your website, not for free obviously🙂 But yes, with SEO you'll have much better chances of appearing higher in SERP.

This is why you need to position your forum [or blog] to rank higher on Google. The higher on the list you are, the more traffic you get. And that can be done without any money spent. But you have to work for it, too. You can't just set up a forum, slap a skin, and be done with it. You have to work for it, by posting something new in there. Not spammy-like, but I mean, new content.

Your forum [or blog] needs to have good on-page SEO. Without it, it's going to be very difficult to get your site to any list on google.

Secondly, you need RSS, and/or sitemaps to help google find your site faster. A lot of forum software packages don't have these features, so that's why they are dying.

It helps to have money to spend on marketing into your site, but you need more money to spare than just $100 a day or week. Whatever the metric you set.

Yes, there are updates and so it seems like SEO has become more important.
