So, I'm making an encyclopedia. I'm not sure if I'll be penalize by google for copying content from Wikipedia. During the installation of Mediawiki, they told me that setting content licenses to Creative Commons Attribution Share Alike mean I'll be able to use Wikipedia content. Will google penalize me? How does google check what my content is licensed under?

If you are licensed then Google will not penalize your content. Wikipedia content is a general content and is open for editing contents on your own. But don't try to just copy and paste everything from there. You can spin those articles for more valuable contents.

Thanks!^^

I would like to heard more from others. Also, I did not just copy and paste. I did some editing before adding them.

yes Google will penalized if you copy any content from wikipedia or from any other source.

I also agree. You may not rank well. Hmm, and copying content even if it's licensed could be considered scraping content right?

If you are including the data in quotes or giving the information about the source, then you will not be penalized for sure. However don't try to play it smart and do all the work with wiki content include your data as well.

From my point of view, you can read all article then rewrite it based on your idea as well as conclude
