Basically, Family Guy are making a video game called "Family Guy: Back to the Multiverse". I just purchased the domain name "www.backtothemultiverse.com". Will they buy it from me or will it be left redundant?

It's very doubtful they'll buy it from you, but you can always hope :great:

I have heard of there game, lol. I doubt they will buy it but maybe, you can only hope!

3 Way it could happen.
1 They buy it
2 The sue you
3 You make a site about the game flood it with advertising and hope you make money without getting sued.

How would you get sued? I don't see the copyright in this as they clearly didn't have the domain name in the first place. However, I may be wrong.

I am unsure whether they will buy it off you but if they do, there will probably be some money coming your way. But they may just get another domain name and stick FG in front of it or something.

Trademarks? Those pesky little things exist.
I remember how some online perfume shop called The Perfume Bay was taken to court by ebay due to their domain perfumebay.com, worked in Ebay's favor as apparently someone could have mistaken it for Perfum Ebay :great: .

I think if you could make the website rank in the top 3 results for "Family Guy: Back to the Multiverse" or "Back to the Multiverse" on Google search listing, and other search and social sites then the creators of Family Guy might be interested it, or if you can get a lot of Family Guy fans to be a member on your forum.

Okay thanks guys, kinda worried about the legal issues now. Might have to look into it further.

You would have thought they would have already bought it though haha!

Might make a fan forum for the game.

I don't understand how you can be sued. Even with trademarks, you were the first person to buy the domain. The only legal matter there is you legally owning that domain. Now, if you don't have completely valid information with your domain company, Fox can go after you and force you to give it up via a technicality.

If you have someone's trademark in your domain the trademark owner is required to go after it, otherwise such cases wouldn't happen, there's multiple on the first page of this domain forum's legal issues board http://www.dnforum.com/f26/

It's like iphone5.com the owners were sued by Apple because it's a trademark.

But is 'Back to the Multiverse' a trademark?

Some sites are saying they've filed for it so they probably got it.

Why would they buy it when they could just sue you xD

I would say sell it onto someone else xD depends, not sure what they would do.

Is there a way I could contact someone of importance to find out what my situation is?

Ask a lawyer or contact Family Guy 😛

if you buy it and you need to develop it and they will buy it at the low ball . so you need to make high rate to they get the rate they want .

I don't know why they would make another website and not just post it on their main family guy site, on fox. I find that a bit odd for anyone to just make a site for their movie, especially if they don't have an official site.
They would probably just choose another domain name, I've seen some sites with the oddest names for their company.. and when I checked... the name they could have used was already taken.

Family Guy may just choose another extension like .co, .tv, .net, etc which goes with the theme of their topic.
