When I look at themes for phpBB, it doesn't seem like there are any new ones. Do you think it will ever happen?

new year new world.. Maybe it will be good to see a new theme... If people request it more

Overall the problem is probably more of a "will there be new phpBB forums?". The forum market is quite slow and phpBB is certainly not leading the pack for what people are starting their new forums on anymore. This is very discouraging for creators to design themes for as the well-established forums are likely to go the custom route and the successful new forums are very limited.

Of course, it doesn't take much for the right person/group to get involved and create an awesome pile of themes out of the blue.

phpBB has faced massive slow down over the past few years because development has been so slow and the development team is tiny in comparison to other open source software. If phpBB ever has a chance of catching up there needs to be drastic change.

As for new themes, they'll obviously be some new ones, but not near the quality there used to be.

Exactly this. Saying that though, I don't see many new MyBB themes either anymore. Free software just isn't where it used to be 10 years ago.

As much as I would love to see new themes come out for phpBB, due to things being really slow for them I don't see it happening any time soon. They definitely seem to be a lot more behind the times now over say Xenforo, vBulletin, and even Invision if I am honest.

I say that the theme is not even their number one most important option to deal with at the moment. They really need to keep with the new trade and keep with the code

There seems to be a lot here. Paid, but not too much to pay.

It's doubtful. Most of the forum community has consolidated under XenForo, and consequently, most designers of forum themes will only style XenForo.

It's unfortunate that phpBB has died away. 10-15 years ago it was arguably the favoured free forum software package, closely in competition with MyBB at the time but in my own opinion phpBB just edged it. It's a shame that their development team slowly disintegrated and the project began to become stale, and I think that's the reason why there's a lack of any significant theme/plugin development for phpBB now.

Christian's theme still absolutely blew out the competition.

There's still some decent work being done on phpBB, I think it's better than MyBB personally. It does feel a bit outdated in some aspects though. I'm currently using phpBB for my newest forum but I envisioned this forum on phpBB for some reason not sure why I just did.
