Exactly this. Saying that though, I don't see many new MyBB themes either anymore. Free software just isn't where it used to be 10 years ago.phpBB has faced massive slow down over the past few years because development has been so slow and the development team is tiny in comparison to other open source software. If phpBB ever has a chance of catching up there needs to be drastic change.
As for new themes, they'll obviously be some new ones, but not near the quality there used to be.
There's still some decent work being done on phpBB, I think it's better than MyBB personally. It does feel a bit outdated in some aspects though. I'm currently using phpBB for my newest forum but I envisioned this forum on phpBB for some reason not sure why I just did.It's unfortunate that phpBB has died away. 10-15 years ago it was arguably the favoured free forum software package, closely in competition with MyBB at the time but in my own opinion phpBB just edged it. It's a shame that their development team slowly disintegrated and the project began to become stale, and I think that's the reason why there's a lack of any significant theme/plugin development for phpBB now.
