I heard news that Windows 7 and 8 will be discontinued from the starting of the next year. Is that true?

Did they release another version of Windows which I have not read about?

Windows 8.1 will continue to be shipped.

Windows 7 reaches EOL next year anyway.

Microsoft is currently working on their next version, which should have borne the name of Windows 8.2, but will be named Windows 10. And the reasoning behind not naming it Windows 9, is that there are a number of programs that looks for compatibility to Windows, by seeing if it is named similarly to Windows 95 and 98. Basically, there is a line of coding for some softwares that states to "check compatibility if version has a 9 in it's name".

I think the sale of Windows 7, and Windows 8 will be discontinued at many stores soon.

You can still buy Windows 8.1 which is Windows 8 with a startbutton, and other changes.

eBay, and other online stores maybe a good place to buy Windows 7 if you need 7.

This is actually news to me. I knew about the Windows 10, as I saw some of the sites that sell software had "Windows 10 TP" under compatibility for some products. I later found out it stood for "Technical Preview", and I heard a rumor that Microsoft wasn't sure if they were going to let people upgrade from Windows 8 for free or not, so I don't really know the story on that.

I can't keep up with all of these new products coming out from all of these different companies! 😀

I have heard that there is a new Windows in making already and will be released soon. But closing down Windows 7 will be a great loss to high quality multi tasking operating system. I am quiet reliable on Windows 7 and never liked Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 patch.

I believe they are discontinuing, due to the fact that Windows 10 is on the way. Same with me , I don't like the 8.1 patch.

Windows 10 is less "metro-ey" than Windows 8, but there is still some of it in there. I think 10 is a step up.

There is a Technical Preview of Windows 10 available for download if you're interested in testing it. 😀

I am very scared of doing testing especially with Windows products. I simply cant imagine the inferno I will create when I finally realize that something is wrong somewhere.

This is exactly why I don't have it installed. If I did, it would be on a virtual machine. 😛
