Who is currently using Windows 7 RC?

I have gone against my will, my view to have Linux running my computer life was the main priority with reinstall after reinstall on my PC and laptop, the Fujitsu Seimens Esprimo v5535 couldn’t get the wireless working correctly for me to use. The main desktop can’t even detect the hard drive during a Linux install, so I decided to try Windows 7 on the PC. Wow.

I must admit, I’m impressed, extremely impressed. I wasn’t this impressed with Ubuntu, Mint, XP or the worst software in the world; Vista. The speed on which the operating system has under it’s hood is refreshing and surprising to an extent, due to it looking a lot like it’s predecessor, which all of you know was sluggish and bloaty. 🙁

Above screen shot shows Windows 7 Main desktop, click it to view it in a higher resolution. First of all that is most noticeable is the taskbar, or so it is now known as the ‘SuperBar’. It is nearly fully customizable with the icons for programs you wish to be there, for example: On my SuperBar I have Firefox 3 on the left, then Open Office 3, then Windows Messenger Live and lastly my Thunderbird email client. These programs are pinned there, while any icons that come after these (or before, you can re-arrange them by click and dragging) will be programs that are open or minimized, Internet Explorer 8 in this case.

No sidebar! Insanely nice and tidy right? “But I liked the gadgets!”, well you can still have them 😀 Right clicking the desktop and selecting ‘Gadgets’ will bring up a familiar window from the Vista Sidebar for controlling gadgets, except these are actually mounted on your desktop, use less resources and look neater. You also get more of your screen back 😛

my friend got to beta test windows 7. you can apparently do it for free if you visit the windows site.

The Release Candidate is on the Microsoft website, sign in with a Live ID and you get a free key until 2010 where you will need to buy a full license upon release.

Nah, I'm just going to keep using Vista until they officially release Windows 7

I am not using Windows 7 but in my IT Department that I worked in they downloaded the beta first and really liked it, and then they have just downloaded the Release candidate and find many errors and bugs with it. Also some graphical interface softwares are not compatible with the RC but they are with the beta haha. We all laughed at that one. ~cheesey_grin~

Of course there are going to be incompatibilities, there would be with anything that is upgrading lol, damn the good ol' Windows 2000 days. What kind of errors did they get with it? I haven't got anything bad yet and didn't have to install one driver either, the printer at work needed its driver installed on the XP, Vista and Mac machines but my little Windows 7 laptop got it for me -🙂- Little things like that just make your life much easier.

Im currently using it on my laptop and havent found a single problem yet, personally even though its only in its RC i think its already the best OS Microsoft has ever made!

I tried it and like xp better.

I think it will be good for vista users though.

I myself with stick with xp and linux 🙂.

Ok cool they are releasing it in October, however the RC will stay valid until June 2010 so no rush for anyone who gets the rc 🙂

Straight upgrade from RC to the final so no point in waiting if you haven't already tried it.

Iam not and i have no intentions of using it in the future. All it seems like to me is a watered down version of vista for people who just want something easy b/c they dont know much about computers.
