I still use Windows Vista Home Premium on a laptop with 160GB drive, 4GB of RAM and a Dual-core AMD 64bit CPU. Vista has been pretty stable for me when browsing the web, doing office related work, watching video, listening to music, basic photo and video editing, and chatting with people online. I don't really get why so many people say Vista is horrible. It seems to work pretty well after it installed the latest updates and service packs from Windows Update.
The only issue is the slightly slower start up speed, but I think the slow start up speed probably have more to do with my slower laptop hard drive which runs at 5400RPM, and the mobile CPU and RAM my laptop is running.
I can't really justify spending an extra 233.00 dollars or more for Windows 7 Home Premium Install Disc when Vista runs most of the programs I need, and the speed is good enough in Vista for me to do stuff comfortably.
