I recently decided to use Windows XP on a very old desktop computer with only 512 MB of RAM, and I was able to lower the RAM usage to around 100MBs of RAM usage by disabling services by following Black Viper XP service guide at http://www.blackviper.com/service-confi ... gurations/ , and also disable other services like Windows Update which is no use anymore now that Windows XP won't have any new updates.
You have to remember windows xp was good back in it's time, I don't believe in the word "Crappy Hardware/Software" it's just old and better is out now. Myself i'm using XP because my PC is running a old 1999 graphics card but i'm hoping next week I can get a nvidia geforce 650ti so I can get Windows 7 back.
I agree Windows 8 is crap it's good for tablets though.
My video card has only 2MB of VRam (Yes ridiculous laughable but it's better then nothing)
Basically some people have no choice upgrading to 7 means I get crappy resolution until next week and it's not good when doing web development.
Another benifit of Windows XP, is that it has the classic Windows theme from Windows 95-2000, and you can switch the startmenu to the classic startmenu as well to make your computer run with less lag.
The animations and visual effects also don't slow down your PC like the in Vista, and 7 where you need a more modern video card with DirectX 9 support.
I think Windows 2000 was an enterprise/corporate operating system like Windows XP Pro, and 2000. It was pretty good for Word Proccessing, Spreadsheets, and networking which a lot of people do on their computers in their office or classroom.
Google Chromebooks are pretty good if you just need a basic computer for surfing the web, listening to music, watching videos, and other basic tasks. It is hard to find a good Windows laptop which cost $199+ which is the price of cheaper Chromebooks like the Acer C720 which is good for people who just mainly surf the web, and open video and music files.
Windows 8 user interface is harder to use for Desktop, but I find it smoother and faster to use than Windows 7 which needs at least 1.5-2GB of RAM to run with less slowdown problems. In my experience, I can run Windows 8 on a computer with just 1GB of RAM, and experience less slow down problems than Windows Vista-7.
I will say you that even support I am experiencing the problems with windows xp professional.I have changed my windows twice.even I have purchased the xp support software. But there is same problem starting again. You may search on google xp support websites.
I know. It’s quite late to reply…
But at some time, I was the lover of window XP. It has lot of valuable features as shown:
• Less Crashing: It’s much more crash proof than earlier versions of Windows.
• Faster Internet Performance: The Professional series of Windows has always operated faster on the Internet than the consumer series of Windows
• It also have Hibernate and Game saving Mode
• Better Photo Handling and Printing
• Treats a CD-RW like a real drive
• System Restore
But there are lot of new options like Window 8 and Window 10. Microsoft just declared the newest version of Windows. It's called Windows 10. It will be a single operating system that finally spans all of Microsoft's Windows powered devices, from desktops and laptops all the way through to tablets and phones.
