Has anyone tried creating forums on wordpress? What's your experience like? I am running forum built with wordpress since 10 months.

If your members comfortable thats everything, I’ve worked with bbpress, buddypress and Simple Press and had mixed results with community confidence and dev updates for the plugin.

Nothing beats a stand alone community.

Do not use WordPress for the forum. It can break at any time. 😀

The standalone forum software is much better than the WordPress forum.

Rather use stand alone. I used Joomla before and had like the Community Builder forum which had mixed reactions from users. A site I was a member on used it as their forum and didn't mind it then myself.

Yes, the standalone forum software is much better, however, running a WordPress site is easier than running a site built on forum script for novices.

Nope, never used it. DOesn't offer all options anyway like a normal software

If you are running a forum and a blog at the same time, wouldn't it be nice to use wordpress for the forum as well as blog?

If you already have a blog with Wordpress, I would think it would be easier to use the Wordpress forum alongside your blog.

This is my favorite way to build a forum on wordpress blog. It is easier to manage your forum and blog if they are built on the same platform. However, installing a forum software on a directory and running a forum is also a good option.
