What's the worst forum host you've ever used? For me it would be Zetaboards, the servers crash almost daily and everything is slow.

000WebHost

They "investigate" your files without any notice and will put your site temporarily down while they do this. At least they did this back a few years ago before I created USHost247.

Hardly. I opened my forum on ZetaBoards a bit over a week ago and we haven't had any downtime. True, there was a brief stint in November that gave ZB forums lots of downtime but it's not like that doesn't happen to other boards from time to time. Judging a software and calling it the worst solely becuase of a brief amount of downtime (that has since been resolved) isn't right.

I realize topics like this are always based on pure personal opinion and attraction, there's benefits and negatives to any software, but you can at least put a bit more reasoning and logic behind your answer. 😉

Forumotion, hands down. I wouldn't even give them one star, never mind a five. They have updates that just can't be saved for a rainy day, support staff were very rude, etc. Would never go back to them again. Zetaboards a few years ago would've come in at a close second.

I'm curious why you like ZetaBoards more now than you did a few years ago?

cirtex hosting. I used both their shared and vps services and they were terrible. The staff was incompetent and outsourced to foreigners. The servers went down a lot. They're also very dishonest when they think they can squeeze more money out of you

I should've worded that better. I really don't like ZetaBoards now anymore than I did a few years ago. My wording was stupid at the time. Forgot my password link was busted, and there were more technical problems than anything it was just ridiculous. I wouldn't go back to them for anything either. However, would that stop me from joining a forum on ZB? Not by a long shot! While I would never go as far as hosting a forum again, I will gladly join up with a forum hosted on them by someone else. Good content, community/staff interaction, those are the things I look for within a community.

I don't like freeforum.org at all. All of the boards hosted on that seem the same to me. 😛 ZetaBoards at least seems to have a very unique and thriving community.

Wiredtree......Hated them.

Site5...Slow support.

I haven't really had any HORRIBLE hosts. Just hsots I didn't like as much as I wanted. I host hop a lot.

I used them too for a while! I totally forgot about them. Yeah they weren't that great. Cirtex used to IP ban anyone who browsed my forum too quickly or hit refresh too many times. Tons of people we're getting blocked from the server, just for regular use.

Another bad one was lunarpages.com. They would take my hosting account offline any time there was any bit of activity and try to extort me into upgrading to their VPS services. Claiming I was using too many CPU resources. Seems to me like a plain .html webpage would be too much for them to handle. I knew what I was running could exist just fine on a shared plan so I left and the next host never did what they did. Imagine that.

The final kicker was when my VPS was getting terribly slow. I contacted support to figure out what was wrong and how it could be fixed. They told me my site was using too many resources and that I had to upgrade to a faster plan. You know what the sole website on that server was at the time? A wordpress - with no content and the deafult design. It wasn't being used and wasn't even getting traffic. So I know my site wasn't the issue at all.

From there on I knew they we're basically creating shared hosting accounts with more access/features and then advertising them as VPS accounts.

I wouldn't go near them again even if they paid me.

Their support is all foreign too. Not one speaks English. It's hard as heck to get them to do anything because they just don't understand half the time. You can't talk to a real person. So on so forth.

My company now is American and their support is American. I've spoken to them a few times and there's never an issue.
