Would doing keyword research increase earnings for forums?

I think it might can since some keywords in forums title, topics, and description are overly used by websites, blogs, and other forums.

For example, "Ipod help" might be overly used as a title for many articles, but "Ipod touch accessories forum" probably has less competition on Google and other search engines, and the traffic you get from Google might be more targeted, so people who found your forum might be more interested in clicking your ads and buying from your "Ipod touch Accessories affiliate links" then someone who found your site via a search for "Ipod help".

Of course, When we start adsense and adword campaigns for our clients we always look for the highest rated keywords in their area, genera of site, and most searched.
