Yes, I think in the future most new tablets would make their tablets capable of making regular phone calls and sms/text because the price of the phone parts needed for calling and texting would come down in price where it just cost a few more dollars to add the parts needed for making calls and text.

There are now $25 Firefox smartphones which can make calls, text, browse the internet, take pictures, and use Apps according to http://www.cnet.com/news/with-firefox-o ... hone-push/ , so it probably cost a few more dollars to install the parts needed for phone calling, and texting to a regular tablet like the Amazon Kindle Fire HD which cost $144 on Amazon and other retail stores.

I think eventually Samsung, LG, and other companies may just release cheap tablets with phone and texting capabilities instead of releasing cheap tablets which can't make calls and text because buyers would rather buy a cheap tablet which can make calls and text instead of a regular slightly cheap tablet with no phone and text features.

I really wouldn't be surprised. First they wanted to make our phones do everything that a computer could do, and now it's happening with tablets. Although, I'm not sure how calls would work. Would you use a headset? Or just hold it close to your mouth? I had the funny mental image of someone holding a tablet up to their ear as if to try and hear someone. XD

They already have what your picturing happening with what they call a phablet. 😛 Not sure how anyone stands lugging a few of those huge ones around that are not even pocket sized.

Can't a few tablets with a SIM card already get texts? It would not surprise me either if calling was next. Yet you can already do that if you use Skype and/or possible another VoIP style service. To me that would be the cheaper route anyway if you think of the contracts bills and what not of a carriers plan.

Good point. I guess the only normal-looking way to make a call would be to use it on speakerphone. I mean even a small 7-inch tablet would look weird if you were holding it like a phone. 😛

Phone Handsets for smartphone/tablet devices which has a 3.5 mm headset jack for a microphone, and headphone will make it easier to talk on a tablet without holding it.

I read on a blog that the Samsung Galaxy W smartphone would be a 7 inch tablet and smartphone. I think these types of phones/tablets would be popular with people who need both a phone, and tablet, but can't afford both, or they prefer a bigger screen phone because they watch a lot of movies and read a lot of eBooks which is better with a bigger display.

I wouldn't be surprised if they did that in the future. Look at cell phones. They can do everything that a computer is able to do and now tablets are heading in that direction as well.

more then likely, yes
Technology is getting so advanced so fast, its only a matter of time.
Not if, but when.

eventually they will at some point. With the way technology is, and fast pacing, it will be bound to happen. Although the idea is kind of silly. Use a huge thing like that to call others when it's supposed to be a computer. xD

I wouldn't see a Purpose. Samsung, and other similar Companies, already put out Devices such as The Note which already are almost Tablet sized and can Call, Text, Etc.

I would picture it more of a Bluetooth headset (If no built in mic so no directly to head) while doing your so called computer needs. Not to mention the possible future when voice commands improve even more. Android's stuff has gotten a bit better & you can use third party applications like Dragon mobile assistance.

Truly the only benefit I see from having a tablet make a call would be its size for multitasking. This way you could say have the phone, dialer, or contacts app open with say two other applications on screen. (Possibly more depending on size). Merge a call with another, end a call, start a new call, et cetera at ease while still writing a .txt document & surfing the internet (to quickly plagiarize 😛). (I could see Windows 8/8.1 doing this really easy. Considering how notifications work & the side by side stuff is in place by default).
