Would this be a good tactic?

I have a question on if the following would be a good idea. If I were to buy fairly active forums and merge them into my forum and multiple user bases combined would it be a good strategy for building a user base?

I am not really big, or a fan of merging the 2 sites, and what not, but if you can achieve better member base that way, I say go for it.

When you buy forums and merge them, the members that are semi-active may not like the new community and will go inactive. But you however will have the older posts and such to make it look like your community is fresh and active.

This may help you get newer members and such too.

Thanks for the advice 🙂

You should perhaps ask your members for any feedback of a possible merge first (applies to both forums) so it doesn't catch them by surprise.

I've witnessed a merge before, and sadly all the members from the merged forum went inactive, and I never heard from them again, which is a shame. 🙁

It won't be enough to gain just more members and content from a merge (threads/posts). You need get some members who are willing to be active/dedicated (who come back regularly), to contribute to your forum to improve activity and hopefully make your community bigger.
