I can't help but have this question lingering in the back of my head sometimes. Would I sell my site if it became valuable enough that someone offered to buy it?

I don't think I would because my current site is a hobby and if someone else thinks is that valuable then maybe I should be looking at what makes it that valuable and perhaps tap into that a little bit.

I think sometimes selling to other people is the right option. In many ways we have to let go of things.

If you still love your site and want control then you aren't ready to sell. If you're busy with real life, the members are a nuisance and you don't know if the forum will continue to thrive then sell it, take the money and get back to living the good life 🙂

Christianity Haven is mine in a sense that it was created for me and I run it but I don't own it so I don't have too much of a say if it were to ever be sold. I'd want to be kept on as Admin though or I'd be really upset since it's kind of my baby!

I've bought and sold a number of different sites over the years, including forums, blogs, etc. There are a couple of sites that I am attached to that I could not see myself selling. FP is one of those sites. 😛

Yeah, I don't see why someone would sell their hobby site unless they got offered some serious cash amount for it. If you were building up a site to eventually sell then I can see someone wanting to sell...obviously 😛

It would be cool to sell domains in niches I'm not attached to. In other words, I don't care much for cosmetics, for instance - but I'd sure make a forum on that for money!

But - is there a market? Is it feasible for me to do that - considering what I have?

I'm highly attached to my drumming, math, and home biz stuff. I don't think I would sell - unless it was to pay emergency medical bills for a loved one - or pay a ransom - LOL.

I think making site under a year and selling it is just fad among forum owners though.

There are a lot of reasons why someone would sell, and this applies to any business or organization.

There might be a time for you to "retire" from running the community. There might be other constraints on your time and you just can't actively lead the community. You might have moved on from your interests. You find another capable webmaster that you trust to take over. You don't expect to make any money, so you divest. The website didn't pan out. Etc etc.

If the price is right everything is for sale. 😛 -- I enjoy having my community as a hobby although I do hope to take it to the 'next level' someday in the near future. I'd likely never sell as I doubt I'd ever get an offer appealing enough to be worth it in my mind.

What would be your "Make me an offer" threshold?

In other words, what is the price for your community that would make you sell right now. And more importantly, how did you come up with that number.

To be honest, the number would be completely unreasonable to any potential buyer as I value the forum emotionally and obviously, that's not a value that could be reflected upon with a price. However, just for fun... if I were to be offered $5,000(USD) I would be quite hesitant to keep it. 😛

I never sell my sites for branding purposes only. The reason is simple. Not a lot of people have a strong reputation of keeping a site alive long enough to bankroll it for the next 5 years. If a site isn't doing like I want it to do, I merge it into the more successful site, and redirect the old domain to the more successful site. If the domain is up for renewal, I let it die. Most of the time, the domain squatters come and buy it, but sell it for exorbitant prices, ends up scamming the person who bought it.

I would never buy a site from Sedo as a friendly advice, but if you have money to burn, do it to a domain that you know is going to be beneficial to you tomorrow. I did it with PS5Forum in late 2017. Sony confirmed PS5. Owner is fucking happy. *grins like a greedy asshole*
