I've been poor, it's not fun, but I've gotten through it and it is something I would never, ever, want to endure again.
That being said, if those are my only choices, then I'd rather be poor and help people (and I have.)
In my experience, the poor are some of the kindest, and most generous people I have ever encountered, and they are often where they are as a result of system failure, be it legal, health (those with mental health issues are often bounced out of the facilities if the family runs out of money to keep them there), military (many homeless people are often veterans who served their country, and all they got when they returned home was a middle finger from the same politicians who used them to get campaign donations and votes and the VA) etc. which is more often then not, the result of some rich sociopath screwing them over.
Money doesnt buy happiness, and misery loves company which is often the reason why the extremely rich get off on screwing over those who work harder, but are much less fortunate than they are. Well that, and they are jealous of those who arent rich simply because as a rich person you often have to worry about if a person is being genuine with you, or because you are rich. And this can lead to a lonely existence. This isn't the case as often with those who are less fortunate.
