Would you rather lose your vision or your hearing?

Don’t want to lose either but I will pick my hearing. I would hate to not be able to see.

I was born with the idea of losing both. I'm blind 20/20, and I'm completely deaf. I wear contacts, and am currently using cochlear implants. So today, I can hear more than I would in hearing aids. I was using hearing aids for about 33 years.

None of you want what I have.

Wow that's a tough one to even think about let alone make a decision on.

I'm a musician, music has been my life so I have to lean towards retaining hearing but I would like to offload my diminished hearing and tinnitus caused by the stupidity of performing in front of a few hundred watts of amplification for most of my life.

Slightly off topic but I've become rather inspired in recent years with how technology has developed to allow people with severe visual impairment to excel in their chosen field. This promotional Microsoft video which is now five years old demonstrates the potential.

Sight, hands down. I've never really been able to grasp why someone would want it the other way. Think about it.
  • The hearing gives you more sensory awareness, literally a sphere of perception.
  • Sight gives you less than 180 degrees of lateral vision and maybe 120 degrees of up-and-down vision.
  • With blindness, you can learn to echo-locate to almost replace vision. You retain full awareness of your surroundings.
  • With deafness, you can only account for what is in your field of vision. This leaves you open to being struck and injured by objects you cannot see.
  • In my opinion, the sounds of nature are the real beauty of nature. Birds chirping, rivers flowing, children laughing. Completely irreplaceable and way better than any sight could ever be. The Sistine Chapel doesn't even hold a candle to the sound of the waves rolling in on the beach.

Yikes!! You've learned to adapt to it but still...that's gotta be tough.

I'm an artist so I never want to lose my vision. I love music and sing as well so I don't want to lose my hearing either! Tough choice between the two but if it was necessary to choose then I'd choose hearing.

I already have hearing problems. Might as well offer that up since I'm going to be deaf like my grandpa when I'm old and gray.

Hearing. Even though I find them both important I can cope better with seeing only rather than hearing because I am not that social in person anyways and sometimes wish I could shut them out.

I don't even want to think about it but on the other side, if I'm to lose any,it would be my hearing. I can't afford not to see.

There are hearing aids that can help me to hear what the other person is saying and also a school for deaf people. So I choose losing my hearing
