Would you step down as owner and work as staff?

If you are a forum owner, would you ever step down as owner of the forum and become just a regular member of the staff? Maybe the job of forum owner was too time consuming so you sold the forum but stayed on as admin or moderator. This could be an ideal solution for someone not ready to let the forum go, but still not wanting the daily responsibility of forum ownership.

I've seen this happen many times on different forums and the community almost always starts declining... I'm not sure why but change in ownership is just never a good thing for forums.

I would only do this if I had to sell my forum for some serious reason and even then it most likely wouldn't happen.

IF and only if I am stepping down to someone who I can trust. The next guy in line must be my best friend in real life and on the internet.

I would never step down if I do not know the person personally.

This just sounds like a "why did I start a forum in the first place". I could never see myself doing that.

If I didn't have time to maintain my own forum, then I would pass on my responsibilities to someone who is trusted and has been apart of my staff team for a long time. I would still do work, but not as much. I wouldn't want to drag the forum down with my inactivity.

If you're the driving force of your own forum, then that is a very bad idea. We've had a former co-founder resign from his staff job, because of his inconsistent presence.

My advice to all disgruntled forum owners: take a few days off from running your forums, and just let things cool off on their own. Once you have the patience to work again, then put your abilities to the test. Don't give your members the impression that you're not to be trusted, because nothing turns people off more than an indecisive administrator.

It's very useful to go underground and experience life as a staffer. You may learn more from 1 month of that than by sitting behind the directors table for a whole month. Relinquishing the position though and re-starting as a staff member does not make an enormous amount of sense.

I think it'd just be way too awkward for me to do that. 😛 If I was to step down and become part of the staff, I would hand over the site to someone I actually know in real life so I know the forums going to be taken care of.

It'd still be rather awkward for the rest of the staff though.

I have to also say, I think it would be extremely awkward for everyone if the owner changes and then is still on the staff team. It'd be hard to get used to being ordered what to do. 😛

I've tried in the past and found it difficult so just been assigned contributor.

There is only one instance where I've done this personally. I've witnessed others do this as well. I agree that it's a great solution for forum owners who feel overwhelmed by the responsibilities of running a forum.

Not at all because I don't think anyone can run my communities as good as I can. The only time I've stepped down in the past were for medically reasons, but I eventually came back.

I'm inclined to agree. It would be very awkward.

I would if I didn't have enough time to work on the forum. That way, the forum itself wouldn't die and it'd still be in good hands. Plus you'd still be staff, so you could still help out. 🙂

If I sold the forum and enjoyed it enough, I might. 🙂

- It is rather beneficial to move underground as well as experience life being a staffer. You could find out more coming from 30 days of the as compared to simply by sitting down guiding this administrators kitchen table for any complete month. Relinquishing the positioning however as well as re-starting being a employee isn't going to make a massive quantity of impression.
