I recently read at http://www.technologyreview.com/news/42 ... es-search/ that Mark Z. the founder and CEO of Facebook plans to bring website search to Facebook.

I like the idea of Facebook search as long as it does not mean searching within Facebook pages and groups, and Instagram which is owned by Facebook, but instead searching for regular websites not owned by Facebook like Example.com , so web masters can use Facebook as an additional source of traffic from search like Google and Yahoo Search.

Hell no. Why would I? So that they can sell my search data and personal info to the highest bidder?

No thank you.

Because of Zuckerberg's stance on privacy, is why I will never trust him, or anything that he is apart of.

I wouldn't mind having something like this! It seems very interesting but I would wonder how it would work to be honest.

We should start a petition about this.

The final step to controlling the internet I think would be a search engine on Facebook.

Then Facebook would have everything you need from the net on 1 place.

So naturally I'm totally against this.

I think Facebook entering Search could improve innovation and design for competing Search Engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing, and Ask since competition from Facebook will improve innovation when competing Search Engines feel threatened about Facebook entering search, so they need to improve their search before Facebook convinces its user base to use their Search by providing better search results and answers for searches to FB user then other search engines.

Google not gonna like this ! xD

If they do it then they would probably integrate it to FB search function. So users would be using it with or without knowing. Not many would complain about it either.

I think Google would want Facebook entering search since Google is having problems with the Federal Trade Commission claiming Google is a Monopoly in Search, and the FTC might start an anti-trust lawsuit with Google because they believe Google is gaming the search results to favor Google while hurting non-Google sites because of its monopoly.

If Facebook enters search, Google can say they are not an Monopoly in Search because Facebook, Bing, and Yahoo are also big search engines, so no monopoly exist in search.

"FTC to Conclude Google Monopoly Investigation This Year, Lawsuit Still Undecided

The threat of an antitrust lawsuit has been looming over Google for a few years now. Despite all the posturing, nothing has happened yet, though there are ongoing investigations in both the US and the EU. "

Yahoo and Bing out there even now so Google says they do not have monopoly over search. But I think Google will be more worried about their share value and profits. Pretty sure both will decrease if Facebook jump into the wagon.

A Facebook search engine could help bring traffic to Google's other websites like YouTube, Google Play store, Google Plus, Gmail and Blogspot if Facebook Search includes Google's content sites.

YouTube, Google Plus, Google Play, Gmail, and Blogspot will most likely optimize their websites to rank highly on Facebook Search results like how YouTube has an official Twitter, and Facebook fan page to promote their content on other social networks.

I bet there would be a lot of people who would search for Ray William Johnson, Smosh, and famous YouTubers on Facebook since YouTubers are famous on Facebook as well, and most likely the first few result would be their YouTube channel or videos on their channel.

But, a Facebook Search might decrease Google's Adwords earnings from search unless people use Facebook search to go to Google.com by searching Google if Facebook search gives them bad results.

There are also a lot of old people who still use Yahoo, MSN/bing, etc, and also use Facebook to chat with family, so if they search for YouTube, or blogspot related keywords on Facebook, Google would get a lot of potential new users since YouTube, and Blogspot have links back to Google.com, and there are a lot of Google Ads on YouTube, and Blogspot.

Yeah, this could go well for Google lawsuit-wise, but business-wise, it won't be pretty.

Plus, Facebook will either use Bing/Yahoo engine or be poor-quality.

Facebook is already using Bing for some of its searches when you click on the more results link on Facebook internal people and pages search.

Maybe Facebook just buy or partner with Ask.com, or another search engine, and build their search engine off of an existing search engine which has the tech and search website index instead of building a search engine from the start, and filling its website search index, and ranking the results which can take a lot of time.

Sounds like a good idea to me. I do believe they can create a good search engine, no doubt about it!

It would certainly fit in with Facebook's buy everything in the world.

I heard Facebook bought Instagram for 1 billion dollars.

I feel Bing, Yahoo, and Ask will lose more users then Google if Facebook enter search since Google Android (the number 1 phone operating system), Chrome OS, Chrome web browser, Gmail, Google TV, and Google Sites like YouTube, Blogspot, Google+, etc all use Google as its default search engine, and web host.

Plus, Google has a lot of fans unlike Bing, and Yahoo which seem to have fewer fans.
