Hiya,

Im just wondering, would you visit a site, if the url (domain) had a - in it, for example:

www.exam-ple.com. Would you be to lazy to enter - all the time and not go to it anymore?

Thanks for the opinions, and please vote in the poll 😉.

I voted yes because I have a domain with a - (hyphen) in it.
And personally, I would go to a website with a hyphen in it.

Actually. I prefer hyphens. One-word domains are retarded, I'm sorry, but they are.

They're good for Google etc too. Because instead of one word, it sees two, three, or even four.

Hope I helped your market research buddy.

Well it depends on the actual site itself to be honest. I would prefer it if it didn't have the dash but I wouldn't complain.

Anyway, it wouldn't make a difference to me as just look for sites on my favourites and don't type the domain out.

The - makes it easier for google to index but more annoying to type.

If I were you I'd go for a one word domain though.

I am not really a fan of the dash in the middle of domain names. Its hard to remember for people and usually sends the people who have the "non dash" version of your domain the traffic.

I know when I ran a gaming community for BF2.. we had it like this:

the actual domain the site was hosted on was this:

www.battlefield-padding.com

but we also registered this:

www.battlefieldpadding.com

and just had people go to the second one, and that's what we advertised in the server.. seemed to work good because google indexed the ' dash ' domain and people could get to the site through the normal one via redirect.

Dang, I voted no by accident. But I don't care what the domain is, its the content that matters. FP could be butt-plug.edu, and I would still come.

Irviding: Weren't you not penalised by Google for that?
People may have just unwittingly linked to your one-word domain. I don't think Google likes that.

No.

They can't penalize me for owning two different domains and having one re-direct to the other.. who are they to tell me what I can and can't do with my site?

lol No one. But they are someone to say where and if you're on their index. Silly.

Google has it's own indexing standards, which most top search engines have recently adopted. And multiple domains is a sketchy area.

Was just asking! :shake:

I know, now that I look it sounded hostile towards you, sorry about that, lol.

I just meant that they can't tell me what domains I register etc.

I know that - is better for google, but i don't care about google really, i mean if user's are to lazy to enter it and don't visit the site anymore why would i need google?

Well thanks for the opinions guys, i just wanted to know because the domain im looking to buy is already taken, but adding the hyphen gets around it, although it means users may forget about the - and enter the other domain, so i might just have to change the site's name 😉.

Well thanks again guys and please if you haven't voted yet or left a comment please do so 🙂.

Why not? The big deal in a certain site is the content for you to drive more traffic and it has nothing to do with hyphenated domain name.

Yes, I would. Mostly because I'm active on a forum a with a - in the domain.

Yah proply would, also not cuz last site I went to that has an '-' Gave me a virus...🙁 So I said maybe.

I put maybe, because it all depends on the site, and how the site is..
like for example, would go to a site the had a hyphen in it, and that site had viruses in it?
I know i sure as heck won't

No i mean like a normal site, with good content and what not, no viruses or whatever. Thanks for voting guys please keep on doing so! 🙂.
