I would suggest merging the catogories, i would have never guessed that your forum has over 650 posts because most of the forums have less than 10 topics, just as an example look at my forum

see how I have just a few forums, this helps activity because members see just a few (not really) big forums that have lots of posts in it. also when you have just a few catogories, members see the "last post' and most of the time if you and your members post once or 2x per day on a forum with only a few catogories, it will show "last post: today" insted of lots of catorgories with "last post: June 2005" (exxageration)
