Paid is better. Suggest that you stay away from free hosting since they can have a higher risk of DDos. Also with free boards you can't convert to paid boards
 
Luckily since x10hosting isn't a forum host and merely free web hosting the O.P. would still be able to convert and even more away from said host if they deemed necessary.

They are one of the best free hosts I have experience for two years. However, using free host gives the webmaster a bad reputation and can be so unreliable. Web hosting is something that "You get what you paid for", and sometimes paid to a host can suck as well. Research some host with many positive reviews that are trustworthy. I personally use Namecheap and I enjoy having a trusted domain registry and using their hosting services as well. Their support is one of the best and extremely fast. Fast and reliable support is always an essential perk to get in whatever hosting package.
 
I use them for my forum and I'm very happy with them, unlike almost all free hosts they don't have stupidly low bandwidth limits or anything like that, it's very simple to use and I've never had any downtime with them.

Who said this Scarecrow? 😛 As long as you have acsess to the Cpanel and the database tab in your ACP, you can migrate to any other host.

Also X10hosting, if your going to go for free hosting, which I do honestly advise against, then they are the only company I

x10hosting have solid firewalls and DDoS protection, like @Myers said they give you full FTP and cPanel access so you can import and export all your files and databases. Do not get me wrong, paid hosting would obviously be better but for people who are students for example (like me) we cannot pay for hosting.

Can't not agreed to someones thoughts and his says and can't not agree to the person that hasn't used it before. Each person has it's likes and dislikes and reasons. You will find for all free and paid hosting that they will have good reviews and bad reviews.

Well, I can't agree or not now !!! If you know what I mean?

Like if I say on thing people agree others don't agree and can't win at all in this world.

I personal don't like using free hosting at all. I rather stay away from that and that's my opinion and thoughts
