Hey all,

What are your opinions on these two forum softwares? Which one do you think is better?

XenForo has just a more welcoming feel to it you know. Both software's are indeed amazing, but XenForo is a bit better for me mainly because of that welcoming feeling. IPB seems like it is built only for professional forums, while XenForo is made for everyone.

I like both, but the licensing at IPB is wild. Pay this amount then in 6 months pay this. I understand that it helps them in showing growth but Xenforo and IPB both have nice platforms I prefer older IPB 3 then the newer version. So I choose Xenforo is simple and does what I need it to do license is easy to understand.

As someone who owns licenses for both, I would say it depends on personal preference at the end of the day. IPB 4 looks nice. and has an established mod community, while XF is also nice and also has a big add-on community available. XF is cheaper, IPB has more years of development under it's belt and one may see it as being more matured software.

I prefer Xenforo. It feels new and fresh and it's add on/template community is second to none. I do have a small wish list of improvements for it but over all I think it's better than IPB. IPB to me is just stiff and professional. I don't know it just doesn't click with me. Both are great softwares in the end though.

Xenforo, it feels more professional than IPB to be honest.

XF is pretty overpriced and has a heavier dependence on 3rd party developers compared to IPB.

What I mean by this is, features that are already within IPB or other platforms usually require a developer to make a mod on XF and if the developer doesn't update(which happens a lot) you're SOL.

IPB is a way more powerful software than XF and it is something I'd use for a discussion forum VS XF puts a lot on trying to be 'modern' and 'flashy' and social networking oriented that it loses site of being a forum in my opinion.

The acp is crap.....I love IPB's ACP.

I will say XF has a great notification system.

IPB 4 > XF

This sounds like something I would say...

Wait, who am I quoting? Nogitsune... Ahh that's why 😛

😛 Great minds think alike!

+1 for xenforo for its simplicity and has active community with huge addons.

I've never owned an XF license but I did have an IPB license. It was a decent software. I would love to have an XF license of my own to play around with and explore things, but I do not want to fork out the cash (+ renewal fee's every year).

Though that comes to personal preference, possibly even just from what you're used to.

That being said, I do prefer Xenforo for it's community (I also get the more "welcoming" appeal as mentioned above) but I'd say IPB beats XF when it comes to official addons (You have the blogs system, downloads, Nexus etc etc).

Xenforo hands down. It looks a lot more professional and I love the alert system.

I love Xenforo and so do my members. The admin panel is wonderful, the support forums are so great, the usability for members and gameification options are simple and fun. I really can't be happier.

I would like to add trophies based on the post ratings add-on and have them appear on members profiles but right now that is my only wish.

I recently tried to get back to Xenforo but everytime I use it I just cant stand it.
IPB 3 and IPB4 especially are much better products

What can't you stand about it?

IPB is my preference because most forums I've frequented use it, so I'm used to it, but I mainly prefer it for the great number of features that Xenforo just doesn't have (by default at least).

I find the software to be ugly and I hate the fact it has a heavier reliance on 3rd party mods than say IPB which raises the cost to use it to equal or even higher than IPB in some cases.

I'd have to go with xF this time. I just really like the layout/interface, features, such as status updates and the messaging system is nice. The Mini profile that pops up if you click a member is neat. The Mod/admin controls are pleasant to use.

IPB is pretty good but xF is much better. xD

I've never really been a fan of IPB, to be honest. xP

I'd have to go with IPB 4.0, it's just a cleaner version of Xenforo. It's more modern and slick, and just overall looks better then what Xenforo can bring. I find Xenforo clunky and a little outdated in the way of how it looks. I love IPB, the moderator controls are also pretty awesome, and the warning system on IPB is pretty neat too. Ecspecially when there's this giant red block on someone's profile giving the mods a glance at warnings and what is being put on that account. (Bans, suspensions, etc.)
