If a program works with XP, what does it need to run in Vista? I haven't been able to find anything
on compatibility issues..

yea installing xp programs on vista shouldnt b a problem however i dont think its possible to install like 98 on xp or at least i have not been able to do it

Vista can have some problems playing older games (about 2001-2002 and before), and there really isn't much that can be done about it. It sometimes helps to set the compatibility mode to Windows XP SP2 and run in the 640x480 resolution, but that's about all you can do.

Do you have a multicore processor?

Windows 7 seems to share the same working drivers as Vista so far and all XP programs I use work so I'm a happy guy at the minute.

Read a few things about the Windows 7 RC1 today, seems it has a built in 'XP Mode' (which is really just a dressed up emu) that allows any and all XP based program to work in a separate window (and thus new environment). It allows you to save files on the same disk drive though (no vdisks ~cool~ ) and you can launch these programs from the Start menu.

Need goos specs though, reported extreme lag on most systems ~sad~

I ran it on my Esprimo Mobile v5535 with 4GB RAM and an Intel Celeron, ran perfectly. Haven't had any lag what so ever, using it at work with OO, MSN, mail, Firefox, IE and WMP open with no lag or anything, It really is a kick ass operating system, I have now upgraded my laptop to Intel core 2 duo, which burnt a hole in my pocket and this thing is on fire!

The only problem I have had is probably the graphics driver not being fully compatible but hey it's only at RC stage -🙂-

I'm waiting for it to come out after the RC versions

Also I really wanted to play RollerCoaster Tycoon 3, only it opens in both Vista & 7 but you can't play properly

I havnt really came across any problems with vista except that since i have 64 bit vista my printer dont work anymore b/c it dosnt have any 64 bit drivers available.

If you have problems with certain stuff that arnt too old or dont use 16 bit stuff then try right clicking the program shortcut, click properties, click compatibility, check the "Run this program in compatibility mode for" then select windows XP (Service Pack 2) or anything the program system requirments recomends. That could fix the problem with some stuff or it may not, you just got to try it.

Hope i helped 🙂
