I am not sure if some of you are aware of who Ashley is, but for those who are not aware..she is my beloved girlfriend. Since Friday she has been sick and in major abdominal pain. We first thought it was just stomach cramps and a stomach virus. It kept getting worse as time progressed. She was unable to drink or eat because it came immediately back up.

Yesterday around 4PM, we decided to take her to the emergency room with no other choice. She has no insurance, so this is something we were trying our best to avoid. Come to find out with a shorter story, her appendix ruptured. It leaked all the bad bacteria into her body and since we waited two days, it had already started a bad infection. Her white blood cell count was 20,000 when it is supposed to be under 10,000. She was admitted to the hospital and rushed to immediate surgery. It all happened so fast.

With out having insurance, the surgery alone is expected to be over $10,000 and that is not including the days she has to stay at the hospital.

We have a GoFundMe page started to try and raise a little bit of funds to help pay the bill. We have applied to get support from the hospital's non-profit charity and will not know if she has been accepted for around 45 days.

She will be out of work for the rest of the week which cuts into her paycheck big time..and that is really tough, especially when working in retail where pay isn't the best in the world.

We both would be forever grateful to anyone that is able to send prayers and even contribute a little to our GoFundMe page. We will be including updates of the bills as we get them for proof and any other documentation that I am able to upload will also be provided.

Thank-You so much.

Also, before I provide the link..Ashley said PLEASE over-look her picture.

And that is why I am glad I am in Australia. Here, in early December, I had Appendicitis. This ended up sending me into surgery, but because of Medicare, I didn't pay a cent.

5 days later...

Just donated $5. It's not much, but I hope it helps.

That is awesome. I'm glad everything turned out well for you.

Greatly appreciated! Anything and everything helps! Ashley says thank-you!

Yikes, I had mine removed when I was a kid and they almost ruptured too. I can still remember the pain.

Hope she recovers smoothly and can get on a payment plan or something.

We will show the bill once we get it. It's not going to be pretty by any means..She finally came home today. Shes still in pain, but much better than before. She is on strict limits as far as lifting and driving and such goes.

That's the same with any surgery though. You can't expect to rake so etching out and be running up Mt Epping straight away.

I've never had to get surgery before so I can't really vouch for how it is. I'm sure it's still painful afterwards.

I've never tried to pay someone else's medical bills. 😛

How's the online fundraiser going?

I hope she's feeling better today. 🙂

I used to be in these surgeries all the time. They are dead simple. Although that's coming from a surgical technologist. From a patient's view I bet it hurts like hell but it shouldn't be too bad. Laparoscopic surgery makes it so we incise the skin very little, almost everything is done with cameras, and not much bleeding is expected. A good stapler makes it so you can amputate and staple the appendix stump at the same time. A good surgeon can do it in 20-40 minutes. Hope it all went well and good luck to you both!

Yes, it took around 45 minutes to be completed.

I wish her a very speedy recovery. It's such a shame that you can get hit with such a huge medical bill in America. 🙁

Thank you so much Sam for your generous donation!

Yes, here in America you can get a bill that is way over $100,000 some times.. depending on what has been done.

Medical stuff is expensive. There's a problem in this nation where we allow the medical corporations to inflate all the prices. A new set of surgical instruments can cost thousands of dollars. The small Air Force OR I used to work for used to spend over $1 mil ever 2-3 months on supplies alone. The stapler they would have used for that appendix, disposable of course, would have costed about $500-600. It's just crazy what the corporations can get away with.

The gas doesn't help

Eh. Don't know anything about that. I help put the gas in. I don't know how it comes out. All I know is fill the abdomen like a freakin balloon. Lots of space so that the organs don't come up and block the view.

It's a cool surgey honestly. Anyone interested...click on...

**This doc used electrosurgery to get the appendix amplutated. Idk. My surgeons preferred staplers.

Ashley got her first bill in. This is the radiology bill with the things done before she was transferred to the main hospital.

Waiting for the other bills. Can only imagine.

Ouch man. I hope everything recovers itself quickly. Good luck 🙂
